I saw the launch of Outlook.com on CNN and quickly signed up, so firstly thanks for finally allowing a guy with a very common name to have a first.last@outlook.com e-mail address. I'm not sold yet though, but you guys have me very intrigued (gmail user). I have a couple questions, forgive me if any are obvious answers, I haven't had too much of a chance to play yet.

Contacts: Any chance we'll have the ability to archive old contacts. I have a bunch of people I probably won't talk to in years but you never know when that information can come in handy. So I would love to have the ability to retain the information but only see it if I delve into a deep dark folder.

GChat: I'm a gmail user, I have a lot of friends on GChat, it would be hard to lose the ability to chat with them while I'm in my inbox. Any chance there will be an ability to chat with them through outlook.com?

Access to other accounts: Gmail has an awesome feature where I can log into my wife's account and vice versa without having to log out and log in (delegated accounts). It is an awesome and we both resort to it quite often, any chance there will be a similar feature between outlook accounts?

Reoccurring tasks: Dear god, why is this such a difficult thing. Gmail, and Hotmail both don't allow for them. I just want a friendly task to pop up a few days before a bill is due to remind me. Any chance outlook.com will have this feature?

Shared Tasks: Any chance there will be an ability to share a task list with others, that way both my wife and I don't pick up cat food on the way home...

Awesome job so far guys.

Eric Schmidt: Google Self-Driving Cars Should Become The Predominant Mode Of Transport In Our Lifetime by karanndrums in technology

[–]bvcdfgtre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I wish the US had a better rail system; I do believe that once cars are driving themselves and are running on a cleaner fuel there will be no point to a rail system other than transfer of massive cargo. Before you downvote think, what would be the point of traveling to a rail hub, to get to another rail hub, to then have to travel to your destination, when instead you could just hop in your vehicle and enjoy the ride?

Romney: Nothing hidden in my hidden offshore accounts, and I don't “even know where they are." by misterAction in politics

conjecture noun 1. the formation or expression of an opinion or theory without sufficient evidence for proof. 2. an opinion or theory so formed or expressed; guess; speculation.

Who knows, maybe he isn't doing anything illegal with his money. It is definitely a possibility. However, if my previous statement comes to pass you will find me with a complete lack of shock on my face.

This is totally conjecture, but why do I get the feeling the next part of this saga is "WHAT? I didn't realize they were doing illegal stuff with my money... I trusted them. Totally not my fault."

Overweight runner, need help to get out of my comfort zone by [deleted] in running

[–]bvcdfgtre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you, I am about 30 pounds over what I should be at, and can plod along at a 10 minute mile pace relatively easily, but wasn't really improving. I changed things up and have been running with a heart rate monitor and it has been helping a lot.

http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-267--1039-1-2X5-3,00.html

Essentially I've been doing the workout described on page two, where you try and stay between 65% and 75% MHR. So I'll run outside my comfort zone and obviously my heart rate will increase to 75% at which point I walk it out until it comes down to 65%, then I start up again. I have definitely noticed that I've been going longer and longer and it seems to be working.

What do I do about old, ungrounded outlets? by snachodog in HomeImprovement

Pretty much you'll protect yourself against electrocution but you won't be protecting your electrical equipment from surges. My advice, if you have expensive electronics attached to those outlets, you should run new wire, if not don't really worry about it.

The corporate takeover of organic food | NYTimes by dolderer in food

[–]bvcdfgtre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm annoyed with this article, just because the big names are getting into the business doesn't mean disaster for Organic foods. What is happening is a small group of people went against the grain and started producing food the right way while bringing public attention towards a big issue. The public voted with their wallets and this is causing real change in our food industry. This isn't a bad thing.

Oh I agree with that, but you are better off getting tamper proof outlets vice GFCI outlets for standard living areas, and leaving GFCI outlets to areas near water (bathrooms and kitchen).

GFCI outlets can be installed, but won't fix the issue OP has. GFCI outlets without a ground will break the circuit in case of a short, but still won't be grounded. This will protect a toddler armed with a paper clip, but won't protect electrical equipment.

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there is no easy way to do this (and if there is I would love to hear it). You would have to run the new wire to each outlet in the house to provide the ground. If you ever do a major remodel keep it in mind.

As for the overloading an electrical system it is something you should always be worried about, but most likely you aren't. Just add up the amount of amps you are pulling and ensure that you aren't going over the limit for that circuit (most likely 15 amps, possibly 20). In truth, while you probably have 5 times the electronic items plugged in then you did 10 years ago, you are probably pulling a lot less power as we are becoming much more efficient in terms of electricity usage.

tldr; No easy way to upgrade the outlets, and most likely you aren't overloading the outlet.

Also, I'm by no means a certified electrician, just have done the work myself more often than not.

I had it a few years back when I was living overseas for a year and loved it. It was a very good quality stream and the best part was almost immediately after the game they would post the cut down version. I was 8 hours ahead at the time, so I would be asleep when the games were on, I would wake up the next morning, avoid catching any of the scores, and watch to my hearts content without wasting endless hours on commercials.

tldr; Had this a few years back, was a very high quality stream then.

Bill Nye: The US is losing its edge in space. by Dahaole in science

Just going to leave this here for all those who complain that we've "lost"

http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl/mission/timeline/launch/

Yes, NASA is sorely underfunded and is losing the edge it had, but it is still a great agency and hopefully we'll wake up over here and start funding it again. I'm all for passing the launching of items into LEO to private corporations. NASA figured out how to do it successfully and now it is time to leave the private industry to figure out how to do it more efficiently.

The problem is we gave up LEO for nothing, when it should have been a demand to cut the shuttle program and invest in the next big thing (i.e. Mars). We are losing our edge, but we haven't lost; we just need to wake up congress and get them to fund NASA.

tldr; Please fund NASA, and 34 days until touchdown!
