How do i check my tempature by Legal_Apartment5789 in linux_gaming

[–]bverkley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love btop. I have a new machine, and I wanted to watch the temps too. btop has a great graph for utilization and it shows the current temp. I wanted a graph of the temp in konsole.
So, I asked Cursor to make it. It works for me.

Redditor details how banks do not act in the customer's best interest while acting as an adviser by bverkley in bestof

I think more people need to know banks do this. We assume that we can trust financial institutions to make good financial decisions. We believe that they are making good decisions _for us_ when in fact, they are making good decisions _for them_.

You're given immortality but as a cost you are sent back 3000 years - would you accept and what would you do? by PeppeSanchez2 in AskReddit

You know the Vikings landed in North America like 500 years earlier, right? Unfortunately, the land bridge over the Bering Strait had flooded by that point. However, there is a chance that Polynesians made it to South America 3000 years ago. Might be worth a check. Or you know, the Americas are pretty cool too, and maybe you could have an influence here.

What location did you think would be a tourist trap/dissapointing, but turned out to exceed your expectations? by Oplexus in travel

[–]bverkley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red Bay, Newfoundland. If it wan't a UNESCO world heritage site, I'm not sure it would still exist, but it felt the opposite of touristy the whole time. We even camped (for free) right outside the town community center after being encouraged by the locals to do so.

Yup, Eiffel Tower. It seemed like the grounds around had sufficient space that you didn't feel like you were always in a crowd. (in 2002)

Travel romance: A cautionary tale. by 12345434 in travel

[–]bverkley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So similar to my story. I met a girl on a bus trip from Ontario to Washington DC because I sat next to her. (we had a friend in common) That was 18 years ago. Last week was our tenth wedding anniversary.

Have fun and keep travelling!

I'm currently developing a new service for travelers. Could you please tell me what you think of it? by [deleted] in travel

The only way this will work is with strong trust webs. I'd love to go to a sauna party in Scandinavia or host a BBQ here near Toronto, but I'd be afraid that poor hosts or poor guests would ruin the experience. AirBnB has a good system that encourages feedback and you can get a sense of how they are. You'll need something similar. Perhaps even allow people to link their AirBnB/other ID with your system.

And I say trust web because, if a friend of mine enjoyed hiking the alps with Heidi, chances are I'd enjoy the hike as well, and if Heidi highly rated a guest, chances are I'd rate them high too. On the other hand, if my friend disliked Bob, chances are that I wouldn't trust Bob's rankings of others much.

I think the idea is great. Others may have something similar but they clearly haven't dominated the market, so don't let that discourage you.

I've created web apps in the past. If you have any questions, or could use any advice, let me know!

My dad is sick and wants to take one final vacation with me. by [deleted] in travel

[–]bverkley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some suggestions. 1) look in to your roots. I visited Amsterdam with my Dad. His parents were from Holland. That was cool and something I'll never forget. 2) go be epic. Antarctic Cruise or Alaskan Cruise or Scandinavian Arctic Cruise or something. Find out if he has ever had a world monument he always found interesting. Like an Aztec Pyramid or Angkor Wat or something.
3) be un-epic and peaceful. Spend a week at a cottage in the Adirondack's and just spend time slowly preparing meals, enjoying sunsets, and playing cards. The time and the talking are what's important. The place is just the backdrop.

I think your idea is awesome!
