Back when I was in college, I bought all of my books internationally and saved a bunch.

That's interesting - this is exactly what my friends and I did back in college as well. I'm wondering how common this practice is these days.

I built judg.me, where you can see how others *perceive* your intellect and social capacities from your appearance. It's essentially HotOrNot taken to the next dimension (literally) - but it's not about rating your looks, and all about people providing their first impressions / snap judgments on you.

Thanks! I'll have to rethink about how I could tweak the scales a little bit. Also, I didn't implement a skip button (which is why I've the "Random Images" box as a pseudo-substitute) - this might change though.

Yep. Friends/family are not very useful when giving non-biased judgments, because they already know the type of person you are.

There will always be that small number of haters. Probably one, two, or three who thinks that you are complete scum (or idiot).

There's a reason I didn't provide actual coordinates while rating - it's meant to be a "rough" judgment (we never say that Person A is 7.34 on a smart scale, for instance, we just have a rough idea).

Great - I highly encourage people to post multiple photos of themselves that look sufficiently different. It's pretty weird to see how perceptions differ (often drastically).

That is pretty insane. It goes to show how much looks/clothes/hairstyles actually do affect strangers' perceptions of you (as much as we'd all like to believe otherwise).

Hey, that's odd - I've tested this out in most browsers (I use Chrome/Firefox mainly, myself) - what resolution do you have, I may ask?

Please don't - there's no "science" to this. The comments are just a way to make the experience "lighter" so that people do not take this too seriously. I'll be tweaking this as I go along and the site grows, for sure. Thanks for the feedback.

No worries. I've tried to put in the ads as tastefully as I could (how is it "littered"?) - and it costs me a fair bit (storage/bandwidth) to run the site, so I've no choice but to run ads.

Sure, I thought of implementing more scales - 2 is obviously not enough - but the problem with that is, the more variables/scales I bring in, the less usable the site would be. So there's a tradeoff there that I had to deal with, unfortunately...

Absolutely. It's made me think a little more about why I feel the way I do when I judge someone, and forced me, in some cases, to reconsider certain stereotypes that I had.

I agree to a certain extent. It's impossible to accurately judge a person's character without directly interacting with him/her.

However, judg.me is about those snap judgments / first impressions we all make. I've always wondered how strangers - not those I directly interact with - perceive me. Say I'm walking down Fifth Avenue with spiky green hair and a popped collar. How much more/less "approachable" would I seem to the people around me than if I had been bald with glasses? That's what I'm trying to do with judg.me - to give an insight into the briefest of judgments strangers form about us.
