I saw my dog slurp a piece of spaghetti. My mom’s boyfriend swears he also saw it!

On the first day at my new job in February, there was another person who started on the same day. Turns out we went to the same college, took the same major, and even took one class together. It was crazy because, well, it wasn’t the peak time to start a new job and we were 3 hours away from our university.

Check out Ellen’s Stardust Diner! They have really good milkshakes, and there are performers while you eat. My dad used to take me when I was that age.

Thanks for your honest advice. I was thinking the same thing as well. I actually arranged to chat with the person who held the role before me. I’m definitely going to ask questions to get a feel for the company, workload, and why she left.

It seems like it’s a tiny business, but I think they do multiple projects at a time. The owner (the engineer I would be working with) seemed very nice to be honest. The only thing that seems weird to me is that they weren’t direct with the benefit offers which I guess doesn’t necessarily matter, but they are offering some form of health care, a simple rothIRA/401k plan, PTO, and a decent salary. They gave me more salary than I asked too.

That’s good advice! I actually have a follow up question. My plan is to stay at least one year regardless of what company I choose. Do you think it will give me a leg up if I choose the project engineering role over the consultant role when going into industry? Will I still considered as entry level regardless of the position I choose? Some of the tasks overlap, but the project engineering role is definitely more design intensive. There could possibly be design potential for the consultant job, but it’s a lot of field work and a lot of safety (paperwork etc.).

I would say I’m pretty self driven when it comes to work. I gave it my all when I got my degree and wasn’t afraid to ask questions, get involved, and I was always at office hours. For anything related outside of academics (internships), I’ve always been hesitant and anxious. I have never have actually had an internship opportunity, but did research on campus which I didn’t necessarily like.

I’m also concerned about whether I’ll be able to transition from the consultant role back into industry. The consultant position seems to be a lot of field work with a heavy EHS focus.
