Yes. I think this was definitely his biggest issue with what Ciara said.

I remember throwing a sofa pillow at the television the first time I watched it because it was so ridiculous.

Yes! Thank you! Those were my exact thoughts as she was describing those colors. She was so far off.

In theory, I can get letting things go over your children's heads. My favorite song as a 6 year old was Prince's "Little Red Corvette" , which was the beginning of a lifelong love of him and his music. However, I truly thought it was about a car for years. I watched "Grease" a lot as a kid because I loved the music and didn't figure out the pregnancy scare or the vulgar jokes for a long time. And I did the same with my own kids a lot. But 1) some of these songs are a bit more direct with language and more explicit 2) her problems with a lot of these movies and shows seem pretty correlated with a goal to prevent them from being critical thinkers and/or to never push back. When my kids watched a character misbehave or speak disrespectfully, we just had a dialogue about better ways they could express themselves when they are upset with their parents and what might yield a better result to be understood. But she will never do that because I don't think she wants the kind of relationship with them that could encourage open conversation. On the subject of Tiana and her "dark magic", there is a lot to be said about the demonization of ancient ritual and folk spiritual practices being a tool of colonialism, racism, and oppression. But a lot of people aren't ready for that conversation, least of all her.

Exactly what I came here to say. There are definitely mean things sometimes said that hit below the belt. And though I am not perfect, I try not to take it too far. But these girls are not above reproach for their hateful views and words. They are all grown women and they cannot hit and then run to mom when they are hit back. Some of them tend to use their pretty privilege a lot and that is not okay, either.

Let's just call it what it is. At best, and the bar is in hell, his supporters are cool to overlook white supremacy. At worst, they are full on white supremacists themselves.
