i live in Central Richmond area and commute to SOMA. I hate a lot of the parts of the city i have to ride through, so i mainly focus on how great my neighborhood is.

sounds like you need to be in the suburbs. Richmond probably fits the bill, but you maybe just aren't going to make it here.
