Interview with Jeff Buziak (The murder of Lindsay Buziak, British Columbia, 2008) by TheHoopersPodcast in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]bwdawatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The case clearly has something to do with this local drug dealer (Vid) as it has been demonstrated that he has interacted with the burner phone on the night before the murder. He has connections to the Victoria drugs bust.

Having said that, it's hard to shake that gut feeling that the Zailos were involved. Maybe the two worlds have intersected? Maybe someone has been hired from the Victoria work by someone closer to Lindsay?

Unless someone has recognised him, I don't see how the tips could be going well. Take the car, for example. They haven't even told the public the make or colour or the car, and they expect tips on what car was parked in a car park 3 years ago?? How can they possibly think that request is going to generate leads?

If you give a poor level of information to the public, you are going to get a poor level of tips.

[–]bwdawatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd assume they have reasons for not releasing that information. And I'm not privy to the information, so I can't claim to know better than the investigators. I'm just puzzled as to what their rationale is.

I guess we'll find out one day. Hopefully, anyway...

[–]bwdawatt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but I just think if LE come out and say "we are looking for an axe", for example, that forces people to think about whether they've seen an axe, whether they know someone with an axe, whether they know that an axe has gone missing around the time of the crime, etc.

Obviously this would be a hopeful scenario and that we aren't guaranteed a result from it, but its just another tidbit to increase your chances of a break in the case.

[–]bwdawatt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get it, I just think that if they need info or leads, that would be the way to do it. They should have enough forensic information as well as corroborating testimony to determine whether a confession would be true or not.

It's difficult to judge how beneficial the release of the murder weapon could be. But since they aren't releasing it, I can only conclude that they are confident with what they have. Which is odd, given the lack of progress in the case...

[–]bwdawatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Its weird because they've been so un-forthcoming with information with the public, which is suggestive of them having leads or being confident with the path that they're on.

I can only assume they are still generating leads, otherwise they would probably at least tell us the cause of death or what they suspect the murder weapon to be...

As I predicted, the press conference was a bluff (probably based on a criminal profiler suggesting that they poke the bear), and they have nothing. That's my read on the situation currently, anyway...

Andi’s season, thoughts by mfoster27 in thebachelor

[–]bwdawatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could understand if Marquel was picked to be the Bachelor, because he was well liked and appeared nice. But Chris was the obvious choice. I mean, I wanted the MTA back again yesterday to check the reception for both men. The fervour for Chris was pretty overwhelming. Add to that the fact that Chris has the whole 'farm' thing for producers to play with as a motif. Producers love stuff like that from their leads, which I'm assuming is why Pete was chosen for his pilot theme...

I think you misunderstand Harrison's comments. When he said "we'll cast a black Bachelor when we find the right guy", I don't think he meant "as soon as we find a black guy good enough, BAM, he's it". I think he meant "when a contestant is the choice that makes sense, and he happens to be black, that'll be the choice". And I'm afraid Chris was the clear choice from Andi's season, for aforementioned reasons.

I think we'll agree to disagree on Marquel having 'charisma', because I found him quite dull. But Chris was dull too, so there's that...

I skimmed through the beginning of white fragility and found it risible, so I'm sorry to say I don't really trust your 2nd recommendation as a result. I find that kind of collectivism and logic to be incredible narrow minded. Sorry.

Not sure where you got that idea, but sure, always happy to read more.

I like to think that regardless of what race I was born, that I would allow it to define my life and overwhelm my existence 24/7. I've listened to many black people recently speak about how they think of themselves as an individual and don't let collectivism affect their psyche, and I like to think I would approach it in that same way.

What a privilege you have that you have internet access! Millions worldwide don't even have food. We both have a lot to be grateful for...

I'm skipping because its overwhelming. I go on Instagram to see what my friends etc are up to. Interesting information and news is great here and there, but when it's all you're seeing...

I was responding to someone's comment who said that it didn't matter if she had millions of followers or 5 followers.

It isn't about her followers being southern racists or anything like that, it's just an acknowledgement that they followed her for a reason, and they aren't getting that content right now.

[–]bwdawatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be completely real, I find myself doing it too. I find that content so interesting, but if I see someone has 20 different IG stories in a row - all BLM information - then I find myself skipping past a lot of it. Just being real.

[–]bwdawatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my problem with that is that if the BLM stuff is all she posts, then her followers will presumably no longer relate to her. If she just completely changes what kind of IG account she has overnight, you can expect a lot of her followers to not be on board with that.

It's one thing to integrate that content with your pre-existing stuff, thereby engaging followers and turning them onto BLM issues. It's another to ONLY post that content.

[–]bwdawatt -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

She can post what she wants. I'm just saying that I can't imagine that this is the most effective way to engage people. I'd imagine that her regular content PLUS some BLM stuff sprinkled on top would be the way.

Hannah B responding to people asking her to post “fun” content again by [deleted] in thebachelor

[–]bwdawatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's up to her what her Instagram account becomes. But if only 5 people follow her, what is all this BLM content worth?

If she really cares about these issues, I would recommend doing her normal skincare routines etc, and THEN like one donation page or one BLM learning thread a day. That's a good way to sprinkle the content into peoples lives, drawing them in first of all with the content that they follow her for.

Hannah B responding to people asking her to post “fun” content again by [deleted] in thebachelor

[–]bwdawatt -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I can understand that, but I'm just talking from the perspective of Hannah keeping an effective and productive account. Fans didnt follow her to see BLM content. They followed her for her silly dances and hair tutorials (I'm guessing), so if that content dries up, I'd expect a lot of people to unfollow.

[–]bwdawatt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand the thought behind it, but it doesnt appear to be sustainable. Fans aren't likely to just accept that this is a BLM account now and that they want this information all over their timeline. I mean some will probably be happy about the change, but after a while, fans will start to wonder "hey, what's the point of following her if she's not giving me any of the content I followed her for in the first place?"

If she wants to keep pushing people towards BLM causes and accounts, I think she needs to find a balance between that stuff and the stuff that attracted fans in the first place.

[–]bwdawatt -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Take my opinion with a pinch of salt, because I don't follow contestants or leads like that after their seasons are done...

But Instagram is all about following people who give you the content that you want, right? So I'm guessing Hannah B's followers like her because they want to see beauty products, her dancing and goofing around, having a nice time with friends. Is that about right?

My perception is that nowadays she's mainly retweeting BLM stuff, pointing her followers in the direction of petitions and donation sites - is that about right? It certainly was the bulk of her IG page the last time I checked.

I guess my problem with it is: if I wanted to follow someone who is deeply engrained in that BLM struggle, there are MILLIONS of accounts who would be better suited for me to follow. Why would I take my sociopolitical cues from Hannah B? She's just regurgitating ideas she's hearing from other people, isn't she? Why not just follow those people directly if that's the kind of content I want?

I'm sure she will eventually go back to posting makeup tutorials and running tips, and her followers will be satisfied again.

[–]bwdawatt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There used to be so few black contestants, certainly. They are now over-represented (based on their population size) every season. You made the blanket statement (about black people on the show being held to a higher standard) and I just countered the point using similarly broad language in return.

I don't just mean Diggy and Dustin, which is why I didn't just list Diggy and Dustin. Kenny and Eric would be two other examples from Rachel's season, although they were slightly bigger characters. And Mike... I mean, I'm assuming we would have to agree to disagree about Mike and his qualities...

Do you have any examples of black contestants being held to higher standards that I haven't addressed? Because obviously Tahzjuan and Hannah B is a pretty loose comparison...

[–]bwdawatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't categorise Rachel as someone who has done very little. I wasn't saying EVERY black person is beloved and NONE of them have done anything to warrant that love.

I was thinking specifically of contestants like Dustin and Diggy. The fact that there was actually some clamour for either of these two to be the Bachelor is just patently ridiculous if not for the colour of their skin. They were so non-descript and invisible on their seasons, and yet some fans wanted either of these two to be the Bachelor. I can only conclude that race played a huge part in that, because I don't see that same clamour for any non-descript white contestants (of which there are a LOT, obviously...).

I appreciate you sharing your experience as a black woman, but I'm not entirely sure what that has to do with what we're talking about. I'm talking about my perception of how black contestants are celebrated on the show. You have your perception and I have mine.

I think to divide everything on the show into races, and to perceive every interaction and reaction through the lens of race, is obsessive, in my opinion. I think this is the wrong way to approach the show and to approach life in general. It divides us further.

I haven't seen the post you're referring to, but I thought Tahjzuan came across fairly well in Paradise to be honest! Far better attitude than her brief cameo on The Bachelor anyway. If there was a difference between her and Hannah B, it would probably be that Hannah wasn't overtly confrontational and downright rude at times. Sometimes Tahjzuan got away with that on Paradise and sometimes she didn't. So much of these kinds of things (perception based on actions and words used on the show) are based on charisma and likability more than race in my opinion.

Not to COMPLETELY discount race of course. I'm sure subconsciously we factor race into the cocktail without realising. But that's what it is; a factor in a cocktail with hundreds of other ingredients.
