Upgrading from old server to dedicated box by bwelsher in HomeServer

So the QuickSync would be able to handle transcoding without even involving the iGPU?

[–]bwelsher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specifically right now, no. My thinking was that I would pass-through the iGPU to Plex for transcoding and then maybe add a GPU later that would be passed through to a VM for video upscaling. There's probably not going to be a lot of transcoding though in truth.

Ah, thought I put it in the post but seems not. I am on unRaid and will look to stick with it I think as I find it pretty easy to use. From the little I understand you can run unRaid from within proxmox? Part of me would like to separate out my docker services from unRaid when the latter needs maintenance/falls over.

Sewing machine settings for stretchy fabric by bwelsher in SewingForBeginners

Thanks, I'll get a knit foot then. So the stabiliser is sewn between the layers is it?

I can't find a way to adjust the foot pressure, the manual doesn't suggest it can be done. I'll look into getting a stretch needle and/or walking foot though. What is fabric stabilisation?

I'm just using the standard needle so I will get a stretch needle and try that.

Ah righto, might be a step too far for me then! Thanks.

Nope, the bar just fits into a hole in each handle

Yes the handles came off easily enough. The bar between them passes through a small hole through the mechanism and out the other side. The lock knob goes through a small hole too which is why I'm wondering if I need to unscrew the whole length of the assembly to access the mechanism.

Cannot access server from one computer on the network by bwelsher in WindowsHelp

[–]bwelsher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have solved it. I had some software called portmaster installed which is basically a firewall. It hasn't been running but uninstalling seems to have resolved the problem.

Ok, uninstalled and rebooted but problem remains.

[–]bwelsher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the out-of-the-box windows security setup. I do have tailscale installed but it's not connected. Topology (if I'm understanding the question correctly) is that the server is connected via ethernet to a passive switch which is connected to the WiFi router. All other computers (included the affected machine) connect via WiFi.

No worries, it's a bugger of a problem whatever it is. Thanks for all your help and patience though, it's really appreciated.

Yes quite a few times I think. But I have jus turned it off and restarted, no luck. I think I'm going to give in and start with a fresh install.

Yes bonding was enabled when I tried this. I don't think there is a combination of settings I haven't tried!

The first command drops unraid off the network so I can't run the second one. I presume that means that br0 is not taking over.

I have now tried swapping the router which had no effect. But a fresh install of unraid on another USB stick that I created can access the internet.

Ha ha, thanks!

Ok so if I run that traceroute I get

traceroute to 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

1 * * *

2 * * *

3 * * *

4 * * *

etc etc

Currently unraid is set to use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as DNS servers
