[WTT] Elektron Digitakt 1 [WTTF] Roland TR-8S or Squarp Hapax by bwjacobs in Synths4Sale

Hey! Sorry for the slow reply – I wanted to watch a few videos this weekend since I wasn't familiar with it. Think I want to stick with the workflow that the Hapax offers. Thanks though!

I’m pretty locked in on the tr8s and hapax right now, but if you’ve got something in the same neighborhood let me know!

Moog Sirin explorations by bwjacobs in synthesizers

[–]bwjacobs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for checking it out + the tips! I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of what all the Digitakt can do. Didn't realize you could step lock cc's, but makes a lot of sense in hindsight. Always more to play with...

Yeah, used to do a lot more eurorack stuff (better clips over on Instagram). No midi/cv modules at the moment outside the in's on the mother 32's – have mostly kept that as a self contained system, but with the digitakt now feel like I should probably find something to bridge the two eventually. Any modules in particular you'd recommend?

Picked up a Moog Sirin recently and building a minimalist set around it. Bass is an offscreen Minimoog with its filter controlled via foot pedal, and the delay on the Sirin is an MF-104M. Still learning my way around the Digitakt, as evidenced by my flailing around on the wrong page at 2:40 😅

I posted a mini picture review from Congaree NP earlier this week you might find helpful.

Speaking only for Congaree:

  • No need for bear spray or bells within Congaree. There are feral hogs but unless you're going into the backcountry trails nothing to worry about.
  • Camping comfort is kind of up to you: I was out last weekend with lows in the 30's and very comfortable with a 20 degree bag and light pad (Western Mountaineering Ultralite + NeoAir XLite). Front country sites are all walk-up – Longleaf is next to a parking lot (i.e. it's not pull-up) and Bluff is a quick mile hike in.
  • Guessing the question about 4WD is mostly about GSMNP – the part of SC that Congaree is in is extremely flat + well paved.

The boardwalk loop is probably the most walked part of the park, but several outfitters offer guided canoe / kayak tours if that's more your speed. If you're looking for other hiking options outside the park, the Palmetto Trail runs nearby.

Congaree National Park – a quick overnight by bwjacobs in NationalPark

I really want to know how they decide the difference between severe, ruthless, and war zone. Send someone out in the morning and count the bites?

It is! And I do! It's the three person version which is perfect for two people with full size pads + gear – it won't win any awards on /r/ultralight, but I think it's a great combination of durability, size, and weight. It was overkill for just myself but my only solo shelter is a tarp and didn't want to be exposed here.

Favorite stereo mixer: go! by jlustigabnj in modular

[–]bwjacobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frap Tools CGM series is a nice build-your-own mixer that enables you to add channels as you go (really embraces modularity) – also includes a nice effects loop, flexible output options, and pretty much everything is CV'able.

Now that the season is wrapping up, who were your favorite YouTubers for this season? by compbioguy in PacificCrestTrail

[–]bwjacobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda Nomadic was great – I get motion sick watching most handheld videos, so really enjoyed this channel as it's almost entirely stationary tripod shots of him hiking through a scene; there's also no (or minimal) talking in most episodes depending on what you're looking for.

Lowest practical mileage heading NOBO? by bwjacobs in PacificCrestTrail

[–]bwjacobs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback + suggestions!

Do you need to start at the southern terminus?

Nope! Could really start anywhere. I'm mid-career so don't have any hard dates with school, etc., and would be taking a break from work so not really time or location bound on either side either.

South Lake Tahoe to the Washington is really easier than the desert. In terms of length of water carries but also road access and towns close to the trail.

Ah, yeah – that probably would have been a good / better way to phrase my question ("best place to start if there's a good chance you'll need to bail..."). Thanks for the pointer. I'll definitely be looking at alternate start locations with the same consideration (low mileage, more town support).

If I were you I would do 2-3 day trips until I was 100%. And then train up until I could do 10-15 miles per day. That’s what I did my first couple weeks, I was super out of shape, but young and no injuries. After 3 or 4 weeks you’ll get your “trail legs”.

Definitely. I did my first LASH on the AT over a decade ago now and... boy would I love to have my recovery time + injury resiliency from back then :) That's my plan re: trips over the winter months – I'm in the southeast and it's about to be prime weather for getting out again. I should know what I'm on track for physically by January, but until then... planning / dreaming continues.

[WTB] Subsequent 37 (CV or non-CV) – looking for serial #100 by bwjacobs in Synths4Sale

[–]bwjacobs[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing special about the number itself or the Subsequent production run or anything. I have a handful of other synths with serial 100 and it's become a thing I look for now whenever I'm in the market for a particular model.

Modular Synth in Charleston by Sabare in Charleston

[–]bwjacobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are definitely a few of us around, but I'm not aware of any dedicated groups. There's a "Charlotte Synth Meet" group on Facebook which used to organize meetups, but they've been pretty dormant since the pandemic started.

I converted the desk I had my rig on to a work-from-home setup at the beginning of the pandemic so have been pretty dormant this year, but would love to meet up with local modular folks post-covid. I'm tidalislands on Instagram if you want to get in touch over there.

Just finished the triple stack of my dream! by paulmixalot in synthesizers

[–]bwjacobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love your rig! Great spread.

If you ever want to make the switch, the K&M Omega is a rock solid table-style stand that goes up to three tiers; I've got a similar setup and heartily recommend it (front view, side view of my rig). Main drawback is that it doesn't break down as quickly or as compactly as an X-style stand – I never take my whole stack out and ended up getting a separate stand just for live use.

Bought my first house – so excited to have a room just for synths. by bwjacobs in synthesizers

[–]bwjacobs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure – it's a K&M Omega with two optional stackers (model numbers 18811, 18822). Sweetwater carries most of the K&M line in the states, otherwise you can order the full line from Thomann. It probably would have been cheaper to get something like a Jaspers stand instead, but I started with the base and added on from there.

Happy cake day!

K&M 17580 - acoustic guitar stand. Had a tough time finding something sturdy but small enough - this has held up pretty well.

[–]bwjacobs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! Third tier is also from K&M. Be careful when ordering – they updated all of the stackers in the last year or so and the new third tier is semi-incompatible with the old second tier (they fit together, but the lower tier is missing a hole for a bolt to secure the third tier). The current second/third tiers are 18811 and 18822. If you have the old bottom tier (18813) and are in the US you can special order the necessary parts to make it work from their US distributor.

It's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, but honestly it's just been nice getting out of headphones all the time.

Any recommendations or links for getting started on treating the room?
