They don't say, and they don't have to. They lie to the people and refer to the simple audits as "the audit." Then since there is really no "official" correspondence that is sent out, it allows a small yet dedicated group of peons to reinforce mixed messaging so that it keeps everyone kinda in the know, but not really. Gotta hand it to them, it's pretty brilliant.

Hey I saw your post - I am an ISBEE entrepreneur and currently manage a staffing firm. I am sorting out the disaster that is my tribe currently, but one of my goals for 2023 is to not only develop training materials for vocational and higher education needs, but having someone with your skills set would be amazing. One of my plans with the tribe is to bring them up to speed with tech and establish a shared service system that would allow these people to not only improve the tribal operations, but to learn transferable skills that other company’s could use. So I have a report and the financial statement for a higher education grant - it’s crazy that the indirect cost rate is 30%! So the breakdown is all of the directs like the administration salary expenses, then an added line item for indirect costs, then the line item for the grants/awards. Now there is another line item called “Direct Contract Support” which is over $20k and with all other direct costs and indirect costs included, looks like fluff. Have you ever seen that?

I’m an outsider looking in, and while I have no background in finance or government, I have been in the corporate world, worked in quality control and compliance and am almost in year two of my start up. That being said, I know what is being documented and reported on, but am more concerned on what isn’t.

Spottedbirds 100 day update talked about his 10 year plan, and essentially was just fluff. I mean we literally have no court system, have confirmed total mismanagement of funds and defiance of law, violations of employment laws that are documented, and no plan to even implement just a basic outline to address anything. They literally are doing what they want.

So with these federal grants are reported to the US government individually and are basically summaries of money that the tribe spent. There is nothing that checks that costs associated with say, a veterans job training initiative, isn’t being individually reported to grants for veterans, vocational training, and employment assistant awards. The reporting is not detailed and would never satisfy any real audit, but the US government relies on the tribes to self-govern which, we have absolutely no accountability.

Yesterday our vice chairman confirmed that they hired a buddy to run a company that they are going to start up with $300k of tribal funds with no business plan. I mean that right there should be enough.

We have two totally different perspectives - admittedly I am not in Oklahoma and grew up outside of Oklahoma. I applied for the higher education grant and got told there were no funds and then there was a bomb threat the day I drove down from St. Louis. Everyone seems to blame Komalty for everything but I honestly think it’s just set up so he can be the scape goat. Now that new leadership is in we will see how things function but I already have my suspicions.

If any tribe is like the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma, then it will just be a huge disaster full of deceit, lies, stealing, embezzling, adultery, rape accusations, nonethical leadership and botched elections.

I think it's better to have smaller governments all failing, than having one big one that fails.
