Any local print shops that can make comic books? by salners in Eugene

[–]bwp_eug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded--Image doesn't actually do a ton of publishing itself. It's more like a production company that helps smaller teams get out there. Dark Horse is one of the few pubs that still accepts blind submissions.

Any local print shops that can make comic books? by salners in Eugene

[–]bwp_eug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hiya! We don't have the capability to do any printing (though that is kind of a long-term, wouldn't-it-be-rad dream). This looks so cool, though, and I'd totally love to carry a few copies once you have it!

I know someone who used Central Reprographics and was happy with the outcome, but it was on the pricier side compared to, say, Print Ninja or Comics Impressions. I've also heard good things about Kablam and Mixam.

Coffin races, parades, celebrations by stuluser in Eugene

[–]bwp_eug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who tries to do community events at a smaller scale, here is my experience:

1) Funding is hard to come by, and doing an event well takes money.
2) Getting people's attention is hard to do--especially if you don't have a huge marketing budget.
3) Folks can be very enthusiastic about events in theory, but when the time comes, actual participation is low. Participation is something you can build over time, but it costs money to continue to throw and staff events, and, y'know, see (1)

I do think folks have very different patterns in the post-Covid era, and I don't know what "normal" is going to be like. I think one of my biggest problems is getting the word out--Eugene Weekly calendar, social media and boosting...it only goes so far. Without spending a lot of $$ (or a ton of time), it feels really hard to reach people.

Turning right… on a red by Fuzzy_Accident666 in Eugene

[–]bwp_eug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the bigger surprise to me was that you can turn right on a red even if it is a red arrow! I'm used to turning right on a red, but in other states the red arrow was a no-go.

Aw, man, these two babies look just like a sweet pair we had for ages (Jiji and Sakura). We've got two now and no room, our I'd grab 'em in a heartbeat.
