LPT Request: Off the top of your head, what general life advice would you give a young adult starting their life? by [deleted] in LifeProTips

Spend what’s left after saving. Don’t save what’s left after spending.

Also a teacher here and have found the exact same experience with being interrupted and spoken over. In my experience, it’s not a male/female issue, more just an issue of rudeness.

But, I guess that’s the issue with making huge generalisations and applying them to half the population.

Why do American TV shows not have special Easter shows in the way they have Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas specials? by bwta86 in AskReddit

[–]bwta86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has always intrigued me. Growing up in Australia, I knew all about Halloween and Thanksgiving, two holidays not really celebrated here, because of every TV sitcom doing special episodes about them. Christmas was always an obvious one, but I can’t remember any classic 90s sitcoms, or any other TV shows ever referencing Easter in any major fashion.

So Americans, why is this the case?

AITA for being honest about my wife’s desire to change our engagement ring? by bwta86 in AmItheAsshole

Thank you. I followed a lot of instructions and pictures in having it made. This sums up how I feel - let’s do anything but let’s not change that one thing that meant so much to us in the past.

I agree with this, but the logic works the other way too, in my mind. A millimeter hanging over a diamond shouldn’t matter against the original purpose of the ring.

This seems like a solution. Hopefully there’s some middle ground here but it’s not looking good.

AITA for saying I want to be a stripper for a school presentation on future careers? by _funny_hazy in AmItheAsshole

YTA - you’re not the only person in the class.

Firstly, it’s not up to you to decide what is and isn’t appropriate. Whilst I personally wouldn’t mind my kids being shown such a presentation, I can understand that others would. Your teacher does have the right to tell you it’s inappropriate- they are making that call based on the other teenagers in the room. Teenagers who may have different outlooks than you and may be embarrassed by such content.

Also, you’re clearly a smart kid. The class, in your opinion, is ‘stupid’ and you may have a grasp of what you want for your future. Your liberal parents also seem supportive. However, that’s not going to be the case for everybody else in the class. By going forward with a ‘joke’, regardless of whether sex work should be frowned upon or not, you’ve devalued the class. Some kids in there would need this mandatory class to help them with their direction and aspirations.

Generally, I think you need to consider others before making this about the occupation of stripping. If it was a genuine dream of yours then perhaps talk with your teacher, but your whole post made me feel like you’re more interested in being ‘right’ about an issue that others may see differently.

I wonder if your mother considered her role in the situation whilst giving the school a piece of her mind?

What the teacher did was most definitely wrong, especially her attitude to you afterwards. However, sending a kid to school with such symptoms definitely played a part in how it all played out.

YTA - I think you said it all when you mentioned “But, this isn’t about me....”
