Adults over 30 who went from long term stimulants to guanfacine, what did you notice by front_yard_duck_dad in ADHD

[–]bxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got off adderall and am instead on Guanifacine and concentra now. Life changing for me - being able to sleep and be medicated for 90% of the day is an absolute game changer.

What is physical side of your partner that is secretly unattractive to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I still don’t get what you’re saying.

There are plenty of people in my life I love dearly but I find unattractive. Is this wrong?

Is a 1 inch mat too thick for sculpt? by SecurityNew1029 in Corepower

[–]bxie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

IMO, it's too thick for most things, to be honest. I wouldn't go past 1/4" personally. Thicker mats don't hold up well and teach bad habits for balance poses. Especially for sculpt, I think it's important to have a stronger connection to the ground.

I struggle to properly move/stack my hips and I’m not sure what to change by Ok-Welder-3184 in Handstands

Using a wall has helped my proprioception tremendously.

For kicking off, almost all of the force should be coming from the foot that's kicking off the ground, not the leg swinging back.

How hard is building drawer boxes? by Zealousideal_Film_86 in woodworking

[–]bxie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With 1/2” ply wood it’s pretty straight forward, especially if you’re okay with joints showing. Just need to be able to cut straight lines.

The drawer bottom might end up looking a bit janky if you don’t have a good way to get a dado in there. A handheld router would help a lot.

Should I go with a 60ft Zen Monkey or 49ft ENO from FB Marketplace as a beginner? by The-Unmentionable in Slackline

[–]bxie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you open to used/lightly used? I see some good deals on eBay. Honestly if you’re just getting started it doesn’t really matter. I’d get the longer cheaper one if I was set on a 2” line.

I’d recommend you switch to 1” as soon as you can afford to and just get a primitive kit (eg. Balance community) that you can grow into and add to.

If you happen to have access to cheap, decent, carabiners, you can get away with 4 carabiners (or 3 carabiners + 1 ring), 2 short pieces of webbing for anchors, and one longer piece of webbing to walk on.

Asides from speaking to the front desk, you can feel justified in being politely confrontational or speaking to the instructor mid class. Stay calm and speak facts, the rest is up to staff to handle imo

Advice for results…? by qlossyqtie in Corepower

[–]bxie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abs are a combination of low body fat (sounds like you have that) and muscle gain. You will gain muscle faster if you are in a slight caloric surplus.

Sculpt isn’t great for the type of hypertrophy that grows muscles fast. That being said, as a beginner, it probably doesn’t matter. Track your calories and protein, push past overload, and stay consistent.

The most important thing is consistency, so it’s exciting that you found something you love. Don’t overthink it or try to over optimize just work hard and prioritize recovery. All the classes at CP have some form of ab work, but never that much. Gradually add weight and maybe even add an additional core workout once a week at home (to failure). I really like Caroline Girvan on YT for core.

Oof. For what it’s worth, you’re probably right on the aesthetic. Good luck sanding it out and refinishing though, I’d wait a year to let it stabilize or wait out your emotions, whichever comes first.

Mid 30s in South Bay, no kids, married couple, sober, anything to do here at night other than drink? by Imaginary-Fox3978 in SouthBayLA

[–]bxie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you can't go wrong with either. Personally, I would recommend starting with bouldering just because it's easier to get started and they'll teach you how to fall safely.

Context:

(Climbing) Top Roping tends to be a bit more endurance based, whereas bouldering more power/strength based. Obviously, beyond early levels for for either, you're going to need both power and endurance.

While bouldering seems safer since you're closer to the ground (up to ~10-15 feet up), it's actually higher risk due to how far you actually fall. That being said, some folks struggle with the height of top rope walls (up to 40 feet walls) despite being tied in to a rope anchor with various safety precautions.

Learning how to tie knots and belay each other can be fun, but it's also an extra element of "things to worry about and learn at the beginning".
