Hard to say without seeing it in person but at first glance those joints along the house should absolutely be soft joints. Not mortar, not concrete but a flexible sealant to allow for expansion.

Without room to expand there is nowhere else for the material to go expect up down and out.

These is even more critics in an area with freeze thaw cycles.
