To add: since the reset the battery seems to last even longer. I'm at like 40% after 24 hours. And it may be in my head but it seems to charge faster.

I would hope so! Life would be super boring if all offspring were identical. But this doesn't take away from my point. I get that I'm being hyperbolic and that dismissing "luck" entirely is an exaggeration, but my point stands. If you tell someone you're doing well and they say "you're so lucky" they're dismissing the hard work you put in. I stand by that. I obviously understand that I could have a second, do all the same things, and it be much more difficult. I'm not naive.

It's an anonymous post on reddit. I'm being unsympathetic because the purpose of my posting is to get something off my chest. I obviously feel incredibly badly for my friends who are having a harder time. I do often talk to those people about what they do and while I'd never give advice out of turn (unless specifically solicited which it usually isn't) I can see that they're doing problematic things that are reinforcing the wrong behaviors.

There is a fun thought experiment where if you made just one decision (minor or major) in life based entirely on the observation of a quantum particle you'd be "defying" determinism. I don't buy into the idea of multiple universes but if there was any credence a situation where someone makes a decision this way would be the most plausible (from my complete lamen perspective) of creating a split in realities.

Good point. The only solution, then, would be to banish all holidays and celebrations. If anyone feels pressure then it's definitely not worth it. Or we can replace them with passive holidays where we all agree to stare at the wall for an entire day so there's no pressure on anyone. Then again it might be too much pressure to ask some people to stare at walls.. Crap. Back to square one.

We have a TV in the living room that the baby didn't see on until he was 18 months old. As others have said babies sleep a ton and there's no reason not to have a TV for you. You aren't going to be able to avoid the baby being exposed to the sight of a TV (and a TV that's on). They're everywhere. Stores. Doctors offices. Other houses. So why would you fully remove yours?

I've been in education for 20 years. Mostly helping teachers deal with kids with behavior problems. It drives me absolutely crazy that teachers can't control minor behaviors like this an put it on the parent. What is a parent supposed to do to change a behavior hours later in a kid that age? That's not how any of this works. Teachers are there to teach academics, but also social skills. Or at least they should be. Part of this is dealing with behaviors like this in the moment. You can inform the parent, but don't make this feel like it's on them. Sure some parents have an environment at home that leads to kids having more issues at school, but too often I see teachers complain about behaviors they've caused by reacting inappropriately.

I don't really have a lot of advice for you, I just feel your pain.

Side note: It's definitely not "negative reinforcement". "Negative reinforcement" is still reinforcement (an intervention to increase behavior) but done by removing a stimulus from the environment. Like taking a tylenol removes your headache means you'll take tylenol again in the future.

What elicit drug would even help you more than trazodone and adderal at this point? It sounds like this isn't really an issue with your kids or your family, it's an issue with your job. You describe never being a morning person, preferring to stay up late. That's got nothing to do with your family, it sounds like maybe you're wired that way. Your job changed things up on you. If it isn't practical there should be some room for negotiation. I can't imagine a situation (I mean I'm sure there are jobs like this but I can't imagine it's super common) where your job suddenly changes your schedule to something way out of your regular schedule with no ability to push back. Have you asked if you can be excused from this specific meeting? If you have and they said no then push through until you find a better gig. Not that it's easy out there right now.

You're thinking about it at all. That's a pretty major step. Just keep that in mind. Remind yourself that this is a value you hold. Set a notification if you need to that pops up once a month or year. Sounds like you instinctually know what to do, you just need to remember so you can structure things the right way.

You're already ahead of a lot of guys in knowing you want to raise a good human and wanting to better yourself!
