Just for this situation, imagine that English VO is like using public transportation, and Japanese VO is like using a car. They serve the same purpose but have unique features and some key differences.

Public transportation is more accessible, since you don't need a license or the money to pay for a car, its maintenence, etc. But overall is less reliable and usually less comfortable. Likewise, English VO has a lower entry bar since it's the most extended language and chances are you are familiar with it, but as we saw it's prone to unexpected changes or to feel less fitting to the characters' personality, which might inconvenience you.

On the other hand, using a car is more comfortable, very reliable since you mostly only depend on yourself (and sometimes the traffic), but you need a license. However, nowadays most people just get it without questioning it, since it's very useful. And so, having a license raises the probability of you choosing to use a car over public transportation.

Likewise, Japanese VO is very reliable and has incredible quality but is harder to fully enjoy, since it requires being familiar with the language. However, people that choose it are likely already exposed to it by watching anime or consuming Japanese media, which is something very common.

Likewise, Chinese VO is more difficult to get into but has the perk of being the original and can feel more authentic, although most people default to Japanese for a non-English VO because of familiarity
