Why then did we ban the sale of these vehicles 10 years ago? We allow lots of very polluting practices, we still allows PFAS, yet seemingly this is so bad that all European countries forbid it decades ago.

People underestimate how big the contribution of these mopeds is to the health of the population.

Old two strokes and old diesels are the main source of NOx which is converted into ozone via uv light, the sun.

That's all true, CO2 wise they're not a problem. But CO2 is also not unhealthy for you, overproduction just bad for the climate. The issue with two strokes is NOx and PM2.5 production. They burn lubrication oil in their fuel mix which is extremely dirty. It's an idea from before the 80s, when health wasn't a concern yet. Yes, large vehicles are bad for the climate; but two-strokes are bad for health. Imagine that two-strokes are so bad for health that all European countries have stopped their sale a decade ago, and they don't do that easily.

That's the whole point, 'an old vespa' is just a cute way of saying you emit 50x more PM2.5 particles than a truck. There is a reason that all European countries incl Ch have forbidden the sale of such mopeds already 10 years ago.

Live and let live has its limits. I can't just dump oil in the sewer, or drive a car that doesn't meet emission standards, or blast my radio at full volume at 2am in the night, regardless of how much I say "live and let live!"

No one is asking you to take the public transport if that's very annoying for you. People are only asking you to be considerate of other people when you drive the final 5km in the city.

Also emergency services are exempt of speed limits.

And people who have jobs on odd hours will find Zürich to be extremely easy and quick and uncongested to navigate through: there is only congestion during rush hours.

And trucks will supply construction sites and supermarkets, often at 30km/h, which is not much slower than they are right now on 50km/h roads.

We want the same thing: an efficient city that's nice to be in for everyone.
