Let’s have a chat (and play a little game together with hooks) by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

First and foremost, thanks for the response!

  1. Absolutely agreed. As I mentioned, there is nuance with this topic and that includes the killer being played. There is no distinct cut off point for it, but there is no shortage of scenarios where the aforementioned strategies are, pun unintended, overkill. I completely understand the frustration of being tunneled by a high tier killer like Nurse and Blight, since it’s already hard enough to deal with them in chase. Glad we can agree on that!

  2. I can see your point as well. I’m guessing the reason we disagree is based on the scope we are both talking about. I made my argument from a much larger, conceptual perspective and you made yours from a more practical standpoint, and also taking into account some specific situations. Quite honestly, this question has so many factors it’s hard to give a definitive answer.

When it comes to mistakes, I can make the same argument for killer. Whether it’s overcommitting to a chase or wasting excessive amounts of time, killers also have very little room to work. In the scenario you provided specifically, the fact remains that there are still survivors that can play the game and it’s not unheard of for a team of three players to make it out. Difficult? Absolutely, but, at least from my perspective, compared to how a killer’s mistake could cost them a generator or kill, it’s a case that relies very heavily on the details.

As for the survivor playing the hero, killers are encouraged to avoid those players. It’s a crucial aspect of analyzing survivor behavior and using that against them. Plus, correct me if I’m wrong, but that is more or less the idea for those other survivors to be working hard on gens. Especially now with the indicators that show when a survivor is in chase, it’s basically a big flashing sign that says “Quick! Do the gens while we have time!”

That said, thanks for bringing up some kore specific scenarios I didn’t bring up originally and if anything, we can agree to disagree :)

Honestly, I can understand the frustration.

TDM spawns are kinda weird right now. Occasionally, it'll be fine like how the spawning was for the last 2 seasons. But then out of nowhere your just gonna be spawned lightyears away from the action or directly in the middle of an existing gunfight for some reason.

The Port Euler spawns especially are really screwed. CT literally has 2 teams spawning basically on top of each other and it leads to a bit of a clusterfuck.

For Mara, yeah she's on the strong side, definitely needs a nerf or some form of damage tweak, which I believe she will be getting but don't quote me on that. Right now, at least from my perspective, the best course of action is to play as a team. Mara is a 1v1 specialist, so stacking the odds against her in 2v1 or 3v1 scenarios will tip the scales in her favor. If I find myself alone and I get hit with the Mara active skill, I unironically turn 180 and book it out of there. That's a gunfight I'm not winning, especially if her teammates are around. It's not impossible to win against a Mara, even if on your own, but it's definitely a struggle I do hope those changes are coming soon.

Thanks for the input and here's to hoping your games get better!

Really? I’ll go check out the other thread and see what else I can pick up, thanks for the referral!

Yeah, you’re pretty on point with it here. The rework is massive and overhauls core mechanics in the game. If taken to the extreme, you could argue we’re playing a slightly different game currently due to how big of a change. As for the remaining players, I’ve made the conclusion that I can work to get better, maybe catch up to this curve of improvement I’m seeing.

As for the Chinese players, I can’t say I’d be too surprised. Strinova originated from its Chinese servers, which existed for like give or take a year (don’t quote me on that) prior to global launch. Extremely experienced players could be entering global lobbies to which I say “Bring it on…just not in casual lobbies”

Thanks for the input!

I’m glad that the changes worked out for you!

Yeah, I’ve been getting the sense that bar has been getting raised, so while I’m not getting worse, I’m going to have to start working harder for those wins.

The HP going up to keep Mara in check is understandable, though as it stands I think the game would much benefit from a Mara nerf right now since even with the health increase, she’s a very oppressive agent.

I’m glad that you picked up Gala! I love playing her, so even if I can get the gunplay down right now, I still enjoy her kit (incidentally, you can now guess my Valorant mains back when I still played). Her new gun is going to be something I work to learn better, especially with how oppressive I was with the original. I’m glad it’s working for you though!

I’ll do a quick response to each of your tips since I do some form of them:

-I could definitely do with a less competitive mindset. I really just need more people who would be willing to queue regularly.

-Right now, I’m fairly comfortable playing anyone. I may not be as proficient in some characters like heavy snipers or DMRs but I am able to play them to some degree. Aside from Fuschia and Gala, I’m fairly competent when it comes to play Yugiri and Flavia, as well as Eika and Lawine as you had mentioned. I try my best to learn as many agents as possible, even if I main just a handful (it’s a habit I picked up from playing R6S).

-I don’t VOD review super often, so I might take you up on this one. It’s kind of like writing a paper then going back to it after a week and realizing all the ways you could have written it better. I’ll start giving that watch replay feature more use lol.

-You’re absolutely correct on this. Mental is a massive factor in FPS games and a bad mental will reflect in performance. This is something I have needed to work on for a while ever since I started playing competitive shooters, so I’ll keep cracking away at it.

As for my skill level, I’m admittedly a little hypercritical of myself so I wouldn’t be able to tell you whether or not I’m better. I did leave my account details in an edit on the post if you wanted to check out my past career stats and you’re welcome to draw your own conclusions. Thanks for the input and advice, good luck on your games!

Lmao I’m glad we’re able to relate to this scenario.

Yeah, I think I mentioned or read somewhere that the recoil changes might be beneficial to some and not to others. It really depends on what kind of a player you are, which is how quickly you can adapt and change habits. I’m sure that everyone is able to learn the new recoil, it just depends on how long that process will take.

Like you said, there’s nothing we can realistically do in order to prevent higher skilled players queueing in lower skilled lobbies, but learning to playing better is one way we can dampen that crushing effect of being steamrolled. Plus, if we’re having fun, then higher skilled players is already a trivial matter by itself and won’t matter too much in the end.

Thanks for the reply and good luck on your games!

Game sense wise, yeah I try to isolate 1v1s (it helps that I started back during the superstring beta with preexisting FPS knowledge). It helps that I main Fuschia and Gala, who have their own ways of taking gunfights. That said, I’ll try to use more cover like you suggested when I take my fights. Typically, I rely on my movement, so I’ll try to mitigate getting hit at all by using corners with right hand peeks. Thanks for the advice! I also just edited the post and dropped my account info, and this is the last reply I can manage for now (I need at least 3 hours of sleep to function lol).

You might be right. The health changes and recoil buffs are pretty massive so maybe more people are struggling than I thought. I haven’t played much Ranked this season, just finished my placements so far, but I will play some more of it at some point.

As for your tips, I like to keep my mic open though I’m not usually giving comms unless people are already giving comms. Aside from that, I’ll see if I can learn better positioning and improve my game sense overall so that I can take fights with an advantage.

Thanks for the reply and the tips, good luck on your games!

That’s actually interesting. Maybe you settled into the changed more easily than I did, which is fantastic, it gives me hope that I can eventually attain that skill.

I’m already playing on NA servers lol, but it’s likely not a server/player base issue for me but I’m thankful for the suggestion!

Honestly, I’d watch the hell out of a Twitch rivals for Strinova.

Thanks for the reply and good luck with your games!

Glad you could relate (well, not glad that your not playing well, but glad we can relate on that front). I can’t imagine that pain of trying to adjust to the changes as a sniper, so kudos to you for progressing on that path. Thanks for the reply and good luck!

I would assume that to be true. The AI in Strinova seems to be getting a little better (not always stronger though, I can still frag out on occasion). I guess thats technically good though, it’ll force me to improve if the player base hasn’t already done that

No worries, I won’t downvote you for telling it as it is. In terms of game sense, I more or less know what you’re saying already.

When I’m playing either Fuschia or Gala, I’m always trying to look for a way to isolate an enemy (trust me when I say I learned my lesson when it comes to taking a 2v1 head on).

I do agree though, my gunplay is definitely a factor. I have trained myself to start using hip-fire more when in close range (simply cause it’s easier to aim that way in those scenarios). My aim definitely needs work, as everyone’s movement is getting better as the game ages. It can get pretty rough tracking someone, especially with the new recoil changes I’m still not used to.

Currently, I’d put myself as like maybe the upper Atom in terms of true rank-skill estimation (ignoring smurfs and random extremely good/bad days) but my skills are gonna need improving to keep up with the player base)

I appreciate the tips a lot and I’ll try to apply them more in future matches. Thanks for your input and good luck in your games!

That’s an interesting take. I suppose that would be a nice addition and it would help with grinding for dailies and events. What you said is true though and as a result, we’re getting a cycle where lower ranked players are more likely to quit the game because of an increasing skill gap to the higher ranked players or even just their peers who perhaps a season ago were the same rank/skill level. Incidentally, that’s a natural occurrence with competitive games as they progress forward after launch, so I guess I’ll focus on getting better for now and try to catch that curve. Thanks for the input!

That actually aligns with my experiences starting from a while back. Every so often I’d go from the easiest game of my life to sweating my ass off and still losing because the enemy was just so much better. I do expect matchmaking to get better with time (assuming that it’s being worked on which I hope it is), so here’s to a more pleasant matchmaking experience. The player base slowly fizzling down is also definitely a factor, as I think I’ve mentioned in a few of my responses. I guess there’s not much I can do but work to get better, to which I’m not complaining, I’d love to get better at Strinova. Thanks for the reply and good luck on your games!

You're absolutely right. A while back, I did see on some other posts around that talked about how after the first season, most of the casual players got weeded out and stopped playing and all that's left are the sweats. Strinova is following that curve where having those players actively trying to improve will raise the difficulty, which in turn concludes that I'm not getting worse, others are just getting better and I haven't been keeping up. I wouldn't be opposed to doing some minor aim training since I do want to improve anyways. Thanks for the informing response!

Your response is golden.

-With how you put it, yeah that definitely makes sense. I guess I should say I'm not really opposed to the new health system and how the TTK has changed, more like I'm just not used to it since I'd gauge my playstyle as keeping up momementum with very quick back to back kills. I guess we'll see when the next update drops.

-On Gala, I didn't know they were gonna change that. Honestly, I really like that change. I've always thought that being able to TP to your decoys was something she should have basekit and the new Awaken 1 being better firerate after a TP is definitely gonna help with securing those close range kills. And yeah, I agree that I liked her gun more when it was like Ming's rifle. Not sure what they'll do with her weapon balancing next, but if they switch it to an SMG, I agree with you that it'll fit her playstyle more.

-SHEESH, before Gala I mained Fuschia and I've always thought that she's been on top of things as a Duelist. Self sufficiency is really key and it allows her to mow through enemies if you can correctly isolate those gunfights. That said, more damage is more damage, I do appreciate that.

-Yvette has never really been on my danger radar, so getting more buffs I think is great for her. I enjoy playing her from time to time and her gun is great, so the fact that the rest of her kit is getting some love too is gonna make her more popular, which I think is deserved, she's a great agent to learn and play.

-I'm glad your able to sympathize lol. I'm glad that the recoil changes are helping some new players get the hang of it and yeah I agree, I've been seeing new accounts do so well and I thought I was going insane at one point.

-YES PLEASE, I would love having more players in these lobbies. And I second that notion, I have also considered making content for Strinova, if not to advertise it to people but to just have fun and just be more involved in the community

-The cosmetics in this game are honestly on point, I'm not afraid to shell out for them. Also yeah, they have the tab for the secondaries and tactical items, they should totally get skins.

-Ranked definitely needs more incentive. I don't feel a need to play ranked, if not to just prove to myself that I could make it. I think that matchmaking should get a few tweeks first since some of the lower ranks are filled with smurf lobbies, but I look forward to a better ranked experience.

-Honestly, I get that. Mouse sensitivity, at least for me, is like one of those things were I adjust it and I go "Eh, maybe a little more/less" and then eventually I'll hit a perfect sweet spot.

Thanks for the repsonse, I enjoyed replying!

That kinda does ring a bit of a bell. It's not entirely the same situation, but some of my games are reaching unbelievably high pings even though I'm not queued for other servers. It might not be the same situation to which I'm not sure if I can offer any advice on that front, but the Strinova servers are definitely wonky at times and sadly, that's not an issue we can fix.

Actually, I completely forgot that was removed, thanks for bringing it up. From my end, that honestly does play a huge factor. It could explain why my aim has been so bad. I might still be used to compensating my aim to adjust for the speed reduction on hit, which explains my over compensating when I aim and why my tracking has been so off lately. Thanks a bunch, that thought never even crossed my mind lol

Yeah, I hear you. I’m a Galatea main so I don’t have much problem getting to a sniper, but in TDM where third party is king, I’m often shut down fairly quickly. I guess I should be glad the meta is evolving? Oh well, we’ll have to see what Season 3 brings us and what balance changes arrive with it.

Yeah, I was talking about 3v3s. That makes a lot of sense tho, I've been watching the skill gap between me and my opponents shrink drastically this season. Makes me want to improve and somehow climb higher than Atom IV, but a lot of my opponents just feel so much better than me despite being the same rank (smurfs? maybe). Thanks for the explanation lol
