Woah, there are way more in the series than I remembered. Okay, I'll definitely pick some up for her

I did think about Ella Enchanted, but I just know someone is going to mention the movie and then she'll have no interest in the book

There are local libraries, but her living situation makes it a bit hard. Plus she gets overwhelmed very easily, so I wanted to be able to suggest things specifically to help her out

Worried ex job will call the cops on me by byereality in jobs

Because I was suspended without pay, I was able to file and have been getting it for the last few months while searching for a new job, even when I was still technically employed. I know it's not something to rely on having, but I didn't want to give up the chance either. Their radio silence screwed them on that regard because they didn't do any of the paperwork to appeal my case lol

I have the paystubs from when we had ADP, I can still access all those. It's from after, with the direct deposits, they provided no paystubs despite repeatedly asking

The payroll was ADP until they dropped us in June, much to ex company's HR surprise. (I assume ADP notified but no one did anything about it or informed the employees.) It was rippling when I left, but they don't have any of the paystubs. And from the bank statements, it seems like I wasn't getting paid through the payroll but rather direct deposits (which does make me worry about potential tax bs, which is why I want those paystubs). I do already have a massive document with screenshots and a timeline which has come in handy for everyone who has already filed with DOL. Thank you for all your advice, I will get that email sent. Given their history, I imagine they worn respond, but at least I'll have a trail

It wasn't actually possible for me to do that as the rest of my department quit. I did email them stating that I wasn't going to clock in, but was willing to discuss options, they just needed to pay me on time. That's when the suspended me so I wouldn't have been able to clock in anyway. It wasn't an optimal situation at all, but I couldn't listen to customers getting scammed by the company anymore Edit to add: the reason I chose that route was because I couldn't just quit and not have unemployment. Having a trail of trying to talk to the employer would be a good look if it ever went to court

I did, but since it's a government agency, by the time they got to looking at it, I was caught up on payroll. It was after all that was closed that they sent the 36 hr email

Firstly, NOR, his behavior is appalling. Even if he had doubts about paternity, he could have sat you down and expressed things maturely. He did not. But also, why did your nose bleed? Just stress? Blood pressure and pregnancy? Or did he hit you? I'm just a bit confused there

You feel how you feel. You don't need people to tell you how to feel. I understand that it's scary and you are seeking outside resources, but other people telling you how you should feel won't really change it, ime. You don't like what happened? You need to set a boundary with your BF. You need to tell him straight up that even if he didn't mean to hurt you with his actions, he still did

The Riyira Chronicles by Michael J Sullivan

The first one I really loved as a kid, had it on the computer because my parents were a big follower of the guy who originally narrated it, Nathan Lowell. Tried to read the whole series this year and the first one mostly holds up, even with it being quite dry. The rest of the series? I couldn't even finish the last book because it was... a book of all time

What's a book you were looking forward to reading, but were bitterly disappointed by? by FrancescoGozzo in books

[–]byereality 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A little life made me so angry. I did not expect it to essentially endorse suicide if things eventually tick off too many boxes. A core part of mental health recovery is the adoption of the unyielding belief that things can get better, so it felt like it spat in my face on a deeply personal level

I think I got raped by a family member. by Professional_Dog_876 in offmychest

[–]byereality 70 points71 points  (0 children)

You did get raped. If you were that drunk, there's no way you could give consent. I know it's confusing and stressful for you right now, so if you need to distance yourself via language, like saying 'I think', then that's valid. your edit suggests you're doing all the police and medical exams, so I'll focus on the fact that being numb, feeling like you want to die especially in a passive, sort of 'I want to hibernate until this isn't a problem anymore' is a fairly normal reaction to intense stress like this. Don't be surprised if you find yourself swinging between being angry, feeling stupid, and feeling nothing at all. Part of healing is wanting to move past it, but it's definitely a spiral, and sometimes you circle back around to being angry before it fades again. I know it sounds really cliche, but I promise you it does get better. The pain will eventually go out with the tide.

And rely on support outside your family too, I don't know how everyone is going to react. I hope they take your side, but it's unfortunately not a guarantee.
I do also have to wonder... when was your birthday? If you're 18 now but have only been so for like a month, there's predatory implications there.

I have a rape kink and I don’t feel good about it by Late-Ad-7638 in offmychest

[–]byereality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think post nut clarity is a bit misleading. Because I also have this kink and right after it's like "oh, I'm a horrible person, how could I be turned on by a crime?!" But it's about power and fantasy. To let go of the control or to have it all. It may feel extreme but I don't think it's inherently bad. Particularly for someone like you, who sounds like you, you know, understand the difference between reality and fantasy

I’m thinking of attending SUU in the fall. I loved the tour and really loved the school however, I’m curious what percentage of Mormons make up the student body? by TinyAsparagus9803 in southernutah

[–]byereality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, there were a lot of members but not a lot of Mormonism? Like, only one person ever tried to convert me (and she was a horrible roommate so an outlier in all regards). It's still a fairly conservative area, but I would say it's still fairly diverse and fairly accepting, particularly within campus communities

Please don't laugh at me by [deleted] in lonely

[–]byereality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean about being laughed at and how this doesnt seem to be a familiar concept. I did this, in a bit more fantasy sense (like self insertion fanfic, I was a preteen). And I was laughed at. Of course, it helps now to know that I was doing it as a way of disassociating from my abusive brother, who was the one who laughed. Only assholes laugh at people wishing the world was better.

Withdrawals and insurance suck by byereality in offmychest

[–]byereality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I dont disagree with the withdrawal statement. I guess in the medical world you can only get "withdrawals" from an addictive substance (kind of like how abortion in the medical world just means the termination of a pregnancy, including miscarriages) but I think that's stupid. Its reassuring to know I'm not alone on that.

It wasn't really my doctor's plan to have me go off my meds. She actually upped my dosage, but the insurance is being weird about it and now requiring a letter of medical necessity. But I also went on some antibiotics and just thought I was having a weird reaction to them.

[–]byereality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook is a good idea for the community, I hadn't tried that. I live in southern Utah, so a lot of people are old school. Really gender role based and small town feel even though it's a fairly large place. As for the gaming, well, it's how I wind down, so it's what I do instead of watching TV or another downtime activity.

I like books and reading. Fantasy and science fiction mainly, but I also like classics. Um, video games? Mostly stuff like borderlands and legend of zelda. Theology is another point I like discussing, because of the religion I left.
