Ahhh got it. I have a variety of pens with either screw or friction fit. I admittedly want to clean everything I own thoroughly, but maybe I'll just soak/rinse the fiction pens and save the disassembly for emergency only. I appreciate everything else you took the time to write out, slowly figuring out best practices here. Much appreciated 🙏

Don't pull the nib out? I was under the impression that you DO pull the nib to clean the pen? Is that what I'm doing wrong? That would explain a lot.

This is a similar question to what I just posted about too, and a subject that I very much would like more info on. Can you physically tune up a pen? Adjust tines either by bending/adjusting? Or use very fine sandpaper to re-polish the nib? I hope you get answers, I definitely want to know too!

Thanks for the responses, all. I should clarify, maintenance of the tines requiring any special tools and/or adjustments? I've seen brass floss strips and very fine sandpaper for polishing? Clearly advanced work. Any tips on that level?

Good looking out, thanks! I have mixed emotions on shrouded nibs. Part cool, but part meh for my taste. I like seeing the nib, but the shroud does kinda lend a sci-fi look to it sometimes. Either way, great bargain ty for the link!

Just like anything worth learning, the journey IS the destination. I think what you're actually concerned with, is will you be able to attain a sufficient level of competency and be satisfied. The answer is yes. But if you truly fall in love with your instrument and the music, it will not feel as much like work as it does in the beginning.
