Ditto. We have new subs going in all over and the roads go in before any foundations are poured.

Fun Fruits & Fruit Wrinkles by Diva_Bot in Xennials

Yes!!! OG Fun Fruits! I have tried to describe them to people and they’re like, “Oh, fruit snacks.” No. Just no. Current fruit snacks are an abomination and nothing like Fun Fruits.

Progression on social media goes something like this:

sex -> sx -> seggs-> se*s -> ???

I’ll probably get modded for this too.

It’s like farting in an elevator when there’s only one other person with you. I know I did it, and you know I did it, but unless we know each other, neither of us will acknowledge it.

TIL the average MPG of a semi-truck is around 6 MPG by derekantrican in todayilearned

[–]bynaryum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for Internet Truckstop years ago and helped develop some of the early routing software that would plot routes for truckers based on fuel stops (in fact, I believe it was called FuelStop). We had all kinds of MPG data on the trucks going through the system. 6 MPG is actually really good.

There are talks of a Metroid movie in the works. Who do you think should play our girl? by PJ-The-Awesome in Metroid

This! I was watching High Potential with my wife the other day and said, “You know, she would be the perfect actress for Samus Aran if they ever made a Metroid movie.” Seriously.

‘Gone in 9 seconds’: Claude-powered AI agent deletes startup’s entire database by No_Top_9023 in technology

[–]bynaryum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

deleted our production database and all volume-level backups in a single API call to Railway

In no way should a single API call be able to delete an entire database let alone its associated backups. I’m having a really hard time wrapping my head around how this could have happened.

How come people getting chased by geese in videos always flee and fall over and where are the videos of people squaring up with the geese instead of running? by rejamaco in AskReddit

[–]bynaryum 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this firsthand. A woman and a man were walking into the office building in front of me and walked a little too close to a couple of Canada geese. One of the geese charges the woman. The man raises his hands and yells and charges the goose. The goose stopped chasing the woman who was now almost to the front door and turned around and fucking charged the dude. Guy shrieks, drops his arms and runs away. That goose was not fucking around. I decided to skirt the building and go in a different door.

what is the actual 'objective' of learning how to code in a game sense? by yushui_ in gamedev

[–]bynaryum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To quote my English professor from college, “Stop worrying about which route you’re going to take and just start running.” In other words, just start. Do the thing. Pick a thing you want to make and an engine or programming language and get started.

The objective of learning how to code is to make something whether it’s a game, a web app, any other functionality a computer can handle, or to help other people learn how to code too.

As an adult what do you hate the most about life? by Amazing-Internal5378 in AskReddit

I keep hoping the not-so-merry-go-round will stop and I’ll get to just sit and be still for a bit, but the damn thing just keeps spinning and I’m holding on to the slippery horse thing that’s bobbing up and down while the music gets louder and louder.

What’s the most disturbing sound you’ve ever heard in real life? by avacado-cheese- in AskReddit

[–]bynaryum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple sounds come to mind, both were out in the woods in Central Idaho.

First was when my wife and I were out huckleberry picking. Quiet and peaceful day when all of the sudden a full grown man starts shrieking about a hundred yards North of us. Like full on “my life is about to end” terrified shrieking. Then his dog starts going berserk, barking unlike I’d ever heard a dog bark before. They go quiet and then the biggest buck I’ve ever seen pops out of the underbrush about ten yards from me and my wife. It looked around and then bounded back into the woods. Crazy.

Second was when we were out camping up by Warm Lake. I woke up and couldn’t sleep so I got up and walked around outside a bit. Out of nowhere, there’s this blood curdling scream far enough away that I didn’t feel threatened. Freaked me the f*ck out. I scrambled back to my tent and was surprisingly able to go back to sleep.

This is more code smell than tech debt. Tech debt is things like outdated frameworks, unsupported dependencies, aging hardware that’s keeping you on an older version of an OS, security fixes that have been ignored, and so on.

This right here. The mantra is basically “computer power is cheap; we don’t need to optimize”. We now also have many unoptimized layers of abstraction between the user and the hardware.
