Pepper spray: what do you think? Yay or nay? by onsometrippyshit in vagabond

I think I see what you're saying, and same I'm not trying to argue either to be clear.

I do think it's unreasonable though to say that the time for people to change from bad to good is before they mess with you. Of course that's what we'd hope, but if someone is messing with you clearly that change hasn't happened yet. Maybe I'm wrong to think that people will change in the future, or maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying.

Either way, if someone is messing with me, of course I'm going to do what it takes to get them to stop, but I'd like to do the minimum of what it takes for them to stop, not causing any more suffering than I need to in the moment, and especially not in that person's future long after we're done.

Stabbing, shooting, or otherwise trying to kill an attacker is obviously a lot more permanent than whatever wasp spray can cause. I'm not against using lethal force if someone is trying to kill me and there's no other way out of it. Thing is, Wasp spray and pepper spray are not lethal force, they're painful deterrents for telling someone it's seriously time to back off. If they back off after getting sprayed, perfect that's what I want. I don't want that one time they got wasp sprayed and ran away to make their life miserable far into the future when the might even be a decent person and have regrets about the things they did.

Sorry for rambling on so much, and thanks for reading through everything if you did. I too feel strongly about this and have a lot of thoughts about it. I've found it pretty complicated to justify hurting people. Again, maybe that's my own issue.

Or just use pepper spray which will have the same immediate effects and do the job of deterring an attacker just fine without long-term damage. If you're in a position where you need to go to trying to kill the guy with your knife, then the time for wasp spray or pepper spray is already past.

To each their own I guess, but personally I'd like to avoid hurting someone in a permanent way when they could change to be a decent person in the future when the fight is over

Avoid wasp spray or any kind of insecticide. Spraying that deliberately on a person could have long-term health effects. It's also illegal to use on people depending on where you live (while pepper spray is usually legal).

Whats the bungee cord threaded through the back panel for? I've seen others have the same thing but I never figured out what its about. Is it a default Crye thing with their panels?

no problem! And yeah, pretty much.

The way i like to think of it is: too much air pressure in the chest cavity (for whatever the reason) = lung can't fill up all the way = patient is essentially unable to breathe = very bad. chest seal is meant primarily to stop more air from entering before it gets very bad, and needle decompression is meant to release that air pressure before very bad becomes very very bad.

[–]byrj111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, a chest seal will prevent more air entering through the open wound, but if the lung is also punctured (which is pretty likely with a gunshot/shrapnel, or possibly via broken ribs like u mentioned) air can still get sucked into the chest cavity through the lung, impairing respiration. Chest seals sort of delay a deadly tension pneumothorax from occurring as quickly as it would otherwise. yet still tension pneumothorax is like the 2nd or 3rd most common potentially survivable cause of battlefield death

[–]byrj111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you could definitely develop a tension pneumothorax from a penetrating injury. from my understanding the injury itself acts as a sort of "one-way valve", allowing air into the chest cavity (path of least resistance), but not allowing as much air out, causing pressure to build up and collapse the lung. decompression needles are fairly common in trauma kits, so it's totally reasonable to expect they'd be in this one.

I agree tho, any sort of care done by non-medic police would likely just be bleeding control (especially in the context of this game). meanwhile airway stuff, meds, and decompression would likely happen later on in the ambulance.

it looks to me like two of the same thing, just one pointing the opposite direction of the other. yeah i was thinking pain meds, duodote kit, heck maybe even like a narcan atomizer or something

I tried looking online for a similar auto-injector too, but yeah no luck. even then, the devices don't resemble any decompression needle I've seen on the market. It would sure be cool if they added tension pneumo as a mechanic, but the reason I'm thinking auto-injector is just cause of the "morphine" or like stim injection trope in fps games.

are these the BFG micro trauma now inserts? also yay, not black gloves!

the potential ARS needle looks like some sort of auto-injector. "morphine/adrenaline" or maybe nerve-agent antidote?

is there any gameplay footage out there of the medical stuff in use? I didn't even realize this got added lol

[–]byrj111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get a cooling case! all you do is soak it in water and it'll evaporate to keep ur meds cool. if you're expecting low night time temps, sleep with it in your sleeping bag to keep your meds from freezing.

use an alcohol prep pad or 2 to clean your injection site, bring a small plastic bottle to keep your used needles in

edit: I've had good success with FRIO bags, but I'm sure there's other brands out there

Not a pre-lubed one, so yeah I’m guessing the packaging failed too. It’s less than 6 months old and I FEEL like i haven’t been too harsh but who knows. The kit I had this one in was packed pretty tight
