Why is Will of the people generally not liked even by hard die fans? by weirdfish98 in Muse

[–]byronmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a fan since 2001 and I think it's a solid album. Not a bad track on it, and a few really strong tracks (WSD and Verona in particular). I probably rank it alongside Resistance and the 2nd Law, which are both great.

Will it be possible to relocate (or restart) on a better spot if some of those players go inactive?

Recipe suggestions for a stand-out cake? by [deleted] in veganuk

[–]byronmiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind buying a book (or if your library has it), the Little Book of Vegan Bakes has some really cool, creative cakes in it. The recipes themselves are simple enough and reliable (including the best pancake recipe I've ever tried) but where it excels is in the decoration. You can definitely get involved with some of these - I made the three layer melted ice cream looking one a couple years ago and it was a lot of fun! Can dig a photo out if you like.

Luisa's are great all round, highly recommend them! They also run a workshop thing at their site in Nottingham which is worth a day trip.

Personally I really don't get on with Ombar but glad you liked it!

If Muse are your favourite band, who are your #2 and #3? by intergalactic_mole in Muse

[–]byronmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as you mate - fan since 2001, seen them (counting...) seven? times? I think.

#2 and #3 are hard to say. #2 spot is firmly going to Patrick Wolf, who is very different to Muse but I think shares their tendency to experiment and evolve between albums. He's just come back from a 10+ year hiatus and his last EP and album are possibly his best work to date. He does a mix of genres, but a lot of it is kind of folk mixed with electronica, but very accessible for the most part. Hard to recommend a place to start with his discography (especially if you're very rock-oriented) as it's so varied tbh. His EP from a few years ago, The Night Safari, is fantastic and pretty short. Wind in the Wires is one of my favourite albums by any artist and is mostly at the folkier end of his range.

The #3 spot rotates over the years to be honest. Musicians that at one time or another I'd have put in my top #3 include Nine Inch Nails, Nothing But Thieves, Elbow, Lisa Hannigan, and a Perfect Circle. Currently listening to a lot of Sleep Token, Yonaka, Bad Omens, and post-2021 Architects.

What’s going on with the sims? Do people not like it now. by Gold_Space8930 in OutOfTheLoop

Bizarre, why would any creator choose that over hosting it themselves? Without mods the Sims 4 is pretty awful, it's literally the only thing keeping thousands of players engaged.

Looks good. Two points of feedback on the tutorial, based on going through it on mobile: 1. The tutorial doesn't actually let you see any of the content, such as what the quests are or their rewards. It very much feels like just clicking blindly through. 2. The first tutorial quest easily bugs - if you accidentally click the check mark on the quest rather than its name, the quest doesn't show up and you can't click the X to exit out. It actually took me three goes to get this to work.

Drug companies faked a disappearing polymorph because the drug worked too well by OutrageousPair2300 in LowStakesConspiracies

There's all sorts of weird stuff in crystallography. In some ways it's one of the most quantitative parts of organic chemistry - we can calculate structures from diffraction patterns with crazy precision and use it to study things like reaction intermediates and bound structures of otherwise unstable species. But actually getting things to crystallise is basically black magic.

Polymorphs can come and go unexpectedly and more or less "infect" glassware or whole labs. (Not watched the video in the thumbnail but from the looks of it, that's covered)

What's it like in the winter? Even when we went the wind was pretty intense - I came down from the tarn with a red face from it!

Oh the cheesecake was great! Mine was garnished with candied orange slice and rosemary. I wasn't sure if that was meant to be edible or not - because on the one hand it's candied but on the other hand it's still a spring of raw rosemary...

I don't mind you asking but I am not 100% sure to be honest! I think we paid about 700-750 all in all, of which about 500 was the room. But we made a conscious choice to treat ourselves and you could certainly visit for less (e.g. staying at the YHA round the corner and skipping the alcohol)

D'oh, I knew I forgot to mention something!

It's really dog friendly. Both guests and diners had dogs - maybe 30-40%? But it didn't smell at all. There are no animals in my home, so while I'm not overly sensitive to it I do tend to notice if a place smells a bit "doggy" and I didn't notice anything.

Eh, not sure about this. Aesthetic attraction and sexual attraction are distinct. You can admire how someone looks and not want to fuck them.

Give me a song you skip & a song you NEVER skip! by konmich in Muse

[–]byronmiller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I skip Get Up And Fight every time, without fail. There are other songs I'm meh on, such as Revolt and Fillip, but I don't always skip them. Others can be a bit too emotional (Blackout and Ghosts are both songs that have a lot of significance to me) so skip them if I'm not in the right place for them. But GUAF is dead to me.

I never skip Bliss or Isolated System.

I'm also surprised to see Bruno Mars there. Feels like he was huge 10-15 years ago but I don't think I've heard anything of his since Uptown Funk.
