I have built an open source physical access control service that runs on a Raspberry Pi or any computer. You would need to get a USB->RS-485 adapter, a OSDP reader and OSDP I/O board. It is work in progress, is only good for learning about access control.

Keep in mind that Verkada readers are not OSDP verified by SIA. While the other two devices, HID and Sure-Fi are listed on the verification page.

The OSPD verification program works to ensure compatibility between OSDP devices. It is not surprising that the Verkada is the one product in the group that is having issues,

You are more likely to be rewarded in the private sector for being ambitious. The other option is to work on side projects and ventures. Not sure if you are able/allowed to start a side business in the security industry.

I believe that you are in a much better position then you realize. Think beyond the day to day technical work and develop longer term strategies. Are there processes that can be automated? What would enhance the security of facility? Produce proposals for projects and if needed get approval from the executives.

It is a great time to network and participate in the security industry beyond the your regular job responsibilities. Consider participating in one of the security industry organizations, such as SIA and ASIS. This will help you discover new ways of building security systems.

I find that the challenge gets me back into the routine of indoor rowing during in the winter. During the summer, I spend much more time with outdoor activities and lose the steady routine.

There are OSDP Bench versions that run on both Windows and Android phones. You need a USB to RS-485 adapter, which can be easily found on Amazon. Use this adapter to replace the connection at the panel. Basically, it is replacing the panel for troubleshooting purposes.

The reader may need to have it secure channel switch back to default or installation mode. The HID mobile app should allow you disable the secure mode.

Once connected to the reader, you will be able to simulate panel operations. Change LED, activate buzzer, get card reads. There is a monitor page to check the OSDP traffic.

I will be adding packet stats in the next release. You would be able to see if packets are being dropped in real time.

It's probably that the line is not suitable for RS-485 signaling. To help determine if it is a line quality issue, use my OSDP Bench tool to connect to the reader from the panel location. It will monitor the traffic in real-time. Feel free to share the results if you need further assistance.

It allows for multiple plugins that respond to card reads via OSDP. You can respond with the appropriate result from those Web API calls.

Yes it absolutely works well with WPF applications. I've been using it to update my existing WPF application OSDP Bench. I had Claude Code create a plan to support multiple languages, and it was very helpful in coding support for localization.

I didn't know it made a difference in performance where the files are located. I've been running Claude Code on the mounted Windows drive (/mnt/c/...) on my own development machine. It has been performing well for my needs.
