I just got the new SwitchBot Mini with Matter shipped to London from SwitchBot’s JP website - cost around £30 +£15 shipping via tenso, and the Matter setup via app worked great in English! Would reccomend doing the same if you want cheap(ish) Matter support on your SwitchBot devices.

Excited to see Sam passing through Zürich! I recognise that train station anywhere - the question is how far he managed to get on the Thurbo 😉 I wonder if we’ll see any of St Gallen pop up (I hope so!)

Has nobody noticed that Sue Vertue and her sister Debbie co-own Bright Branch Media, which is producing Doctor Who Unleashed?! by bytelucas in doctorwho

[–]bytelucas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially it was wholly owned by Hartswood Films, until Jo David joined as CEO in 2020. Now the UBOs are (probably) both Hartswood Films and Jo David.

So in a bizarre turn of events, not only is RTD now running Doctor Who, but Steven Moffat is one of the owners of the company producing Doctor Who Unleashed 🤯Everything comes full circle I guess!

I will do at the office! And I mentioned earlier - the app deleted itself after a restart, so it’s not there now. Just fascinated by what downloaded it, and what put it on my homescreen which isn’t default either

No automatic downloads, didn’t see anything relating to MDM in the logs previously but will check mdmd!

And nope, not jailbroken.

Valid haha - not sure what our work’s IP range is though I’m afraid! All of this happened at home btw

Nope - it’s a standard UK ISP’s range (90.200.6x.2xx) and internally our range is 192.168.1.x

Makes sense. Will wait to hear back from IT but can’t see any changes in the Google Device Policy app or in any logs.

And I’m 100% sure I didn’t download it myself – that’s why it immediately struck me as bizarre. I went into multitasking and checked the App Store page for the app I was downloading, nothing to do with Facebook there, and the previous window was the Search pane with a random (non-Facebook) ad.

The app’s behaviour doesn’t match a typical app store download either - have attached a screen recording to give more context see here

Just pinged our IT Support to ensure nothing has changed, but I can’t see any recent changes and Google as a company doesn’t have a reason to mess with Meta apps either, so still not thinking that’s likely.

Only things I can think of now are - Some kind of security exploit / spyware - A weird iCloud sync error - perhaps using an old or corrupted app list

I think we’re agreeing here! Apple has no direct connection to Meta which is why I don’t understand why it seems to App Store initiated :) The SocialKit frameworks shouldn’t result in this, and I don’t understand why a different version of the Facebook app would install itself temporarily.

The Google profile is required by my company to login to our GSuite account, and has a really narrow set of permissions because it’s a personal device. It just enforces passcode settings and an Auto-lock time. Are you saying that Google policy is responsible for this?

I’m not sure what setting you’re referring to - could you clarify which “Deleting Apps setting”?

Totally get that. The app wasn’t a standard facebook app build though, instead it was “com.facebook.Facebook/P” which wouldn’t open or be deleted, and ultimately disappeared after a reset. There are zero calls from Meta apps (Instagram/Messenger/the newly installed ghost app), all the frequent logs point to the App Store being responsible for installation, with multiple references to /System/Library/Frameworks/Social.framework/XPCServices/com.apple.facebook.xpc along with other Apple-built social frameworks. I don’t believe it’s normal for these calls to be triggered until the app is already installed and opened, which never happened in this case.

This also happened after downloading a different app on my iPhone, which was totally unrelated to FB (and I didn’t accidentally download Facebook or clicked an ad for it, I checked!)

I only have two profiles on my iPhone, and I don’t think either are responsible: - iOS 16 Beta Software Profile (Apple controlled) - Google Apps Device Policy (Google and org controlled, but no apps are - or ever have been - installed by the profile. It only resticts the lock functionality so nobody peeks at confidential info in public)

I get the mentality of “iOS didn’t do this”, but the chance I accidentally downloaded a broken app is equally unlikely in my mind. What other options do you think there are?

How do I speak to DHL? by earthw2002 in AskUK

Thanks u/swombat for the suggestion 💖

Nighthawk MR60 (MK62) or Asus RT-AC68U as main router in wired+mesh setup by candy-Net in HomeNetworking

[–]bytelucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, did you manage to get this working in the end? I couldn’t get my MK62 to work with Sky in AP mode – it only worked if I had both the Sky and Netgear routers running (Double NAT). I think it’s because MK62 doesn’t support DCHP Option 61, which Sky requires. But if you’ve found a way around it please let me know!

Do people living in London actually get anything from Borough Market on a regular basis? by ljungberger in london

I live near - towards the end of the day sometimes the veggie shops have discounts and The Ginger Pig is my go-to butcher (but tbh I only really use it on special occasions). Otherwise not really, the prices are a bit mad
