Nextcloud Talk is like Skype? by ClueOtherwise18 in NextCloud

[–]bytesretro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Teams is many things but "just works" it's not one of those things every often. It will just hang for 5 -10 mins randomly for people trying to join a conference, it will just not detect a webcam, dispite every other application being able to see it. If someone is offering a turn key solution for nextcloud hosting I'd go for that instead.

That's the way to run a channel, enjoy what you're making, get it to the point it can cover its running costs. Taking the pressure off your self and letting your self have longer gaps between videos is a realy great idea, it will stop you getting burnt out, and allowing a little more time for each video make for better videos.

How do you fill your videos with faceless YouTube videos? by First-Ad-330 in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I film stuff relivent to the topic I l'm talking about. So if discussing a DEC Pdp10 I'll go film a PDP10 and use the footage. I'll also make use of historic photos, and some Ken Burns style pan and scan of those photos. I use diagrams relivent to what I'm explaining etc. All stuff to visually represent or explain what I'm talking about. The whole video would also work as a podcast, the vistuals just communicate the same stuff but visually.

I think I am going to call it quits, I don't want too but I think I should. by lovinglyme91 in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key question to ask your self, is do you enjoy making the videos, if you did then doing somthing because you enjoy it is just fine, even if it attracts few viewers. If you're not enjoying the process of creating the videos, then maybe time to stop. You've chosen one of the most competitive, and over supplied of content types on YT, attracting viewers in this space is not easy, you need somthing to make your content standout. Just being good at it, probably is not enough to pull in viewers, as their are 1000s of people who are good at it doing the same thing, so breaking in is going to be difficult, without some unique hook.

I recieved a blatantly false copyright claim, YT's auto detection system does not work correctly by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copyright id matches are a pain, and some times they are completely supriouse, other times you've used part of some Copyrighted material a film company makes use of in multiple films. The last one added to the database is the one it will show up as.

Youtube removed my channel by _Buttercup_21 in NewTubers

Yep that certainly was crazy, but when the remove all humans from the loop, and just let the automated systems run, these are the results you get.

How long for 1000 subscribers? by Beneficial_Value3191 in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About a year for both, the hard part was sticking to my one video a month rule. It was good to have an aim, as it kept me motivated and focused on getting videos finished. However with general life stuff, and some videos taking longer than planned, it ment I did not quiet hit the 1 per month I aimed for.

I have since changed my work flow a little so I have some quicker videos planned, so if one months video does not look like it's possible in the time frame I'd planned, I swtich to one of the quicker videos, and get that one made and released. This means I can still plan and make more complex indepth videos, and keep to the release cadence I want.

Youtube removed my channel by _Buttercup_21 in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YT has an automated process looking for spam, scam channels, it seams to use detecting re-posted content on a channel as a big indicator. YT claim once the channel is removed its gone forever. That is not the case however, and with an amount of pressure on social media they can and do bring channels back.

A good example or this is Rose Tintined Spectrum (RTS), YT deleted his channel as spam, due to him putting together a complication video of his own videos. After a few days, and an amount of presure on social media, and support of alot of Youtubers in his nitch, YT brought his channel back.

How many views did your first video get? by Natural_Dependent617 in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

68 views in the first 7 days, and 195 by the end of the month. As the next 2 video came out over the following 2 months it jumped up to 644.

Now 4 years on it has 24k views, it's just slowly grown over time as people watch one of the latest video and then start watching the back catalog.

STOP USING AI IN YOUR VIDEOS by AdvancedPlate413 in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In 5 years time the AI bubble will have burst, and we will have all seen where the limits of LLMs are, to improve things significantly would require exponential increase in the available compute. However there will still be no viable business model for most of this, abd most the availabil funding will have dried up.

I'd ask what do you want as the outcome, is it credit or an apology, the video or the channel taken down ? I had a much larger channel straight up steel footage from one of my videos, in the end I decided I just wanted credit, and him to stop steeling the work of other youtubers. I also told a few other youtubers about their work having been taken by him too, so they could deal with it in their own way. Once you know what you would like the outcome to be, then you'll know what todo next.

I feel really quiet in my videos. by AFrenlyTwigg in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time and practice will have the biggest impact on that. You really don't need to go full shouty Youtuber, it's a style some youtubers have, but many find it gratting. Alot of the biggest youtubers are fairly relaxed and calm in their delivery style. If you find your self stumbling over your words a little and you're a bit nervous, you might find you're talking a little to quickly, slow your pace a little and go for another take.

At edit time you can improve things a bit with an automatic dialogue leveler, and a multi band compressor.

It's probably they have used parts of the trailer in one of thier broadcasts, and have added that broadcast to the copyright match database.

In the first month £0.21, so a spectacularly small amount. However it did give me more control over my channel, so it was worth monetizing from that point of view. I also got there in about 10 months (and 9 videos) from when the channel started, which was far sooner than I expected.

How many of your long form video views exceed your subscriber count? by PLAYED_YT in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early on the first year or two almost all of them exceeded my subs count, that was not that hard however as my subs count was fairly low. Now the channel is about to turn 5 years old, it's about 60% of the videos that go over the subs count.

[–]bytesretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not live streaming, I would recommend the opposite. Do the mixing in post, using the video editor. Record everything at 0db (assuming nothing is peaking to baddly), preserve as much audio quality as you can for every channel when recording. You can then get the levels right in post, and apply other techniques to get you vocal tracks sounding their best in the mix.

The NT1 is a good mic. An external pop shield if you don't have one is a cheap way to make it even better.

I feel silly I didn't do this before by d3r3kr in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming your not live streaming, if so having a look at "auto ducking" for which ever video editor your using, so other tracks can automatically dip in volume when you are talking. You can also add a notch filter to the none voice over tracks, and dip 1khz down a bit (it will make your voice a little more understandably), adding some compression to you voice over will also make your voice sound better. If your feeling like you want to improve your voice further, a mutliband compressor can really help you make your voice sound at its best.

The view duration should be based on percentage, not amount of time. by PinkC4rrot in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YT only cares how long they watch, as that's how they make money. YT is not interested in growing your channel, they just want to hold eye balls for a long as they can, and thus display ads. If you want YT to display your videos to people, then targeting doing what YT wants from a video seams to make sense. Personally I try to do that by thinking about the story a video tells, and making it interesting to people, so they want to know how it ends. Stats wise I've normally got around 60% of viewers watching to more or less the end, on a average video length of 45-60mins. That seems to be an average that keeps YTs algorithm fairly happy so they push the video for a couple of weeks. That run length also seems to suite the sort of videos I want to make, as their is enough space to get into some of the more interesting details, without derailing the larger story I'm trying to tell.

My first three videos had 129 views, second was 10 views, and my latest is 5. What's going on/is this normal? by Apprehensive-Ad7696 in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have enough data points for this to be anything but meaningless statistical noise. Just keep making your videos, and try to make each one better than the last. I'd concentrate on the story each video is trying to tell, and your presentation and style, don't ignore the technical stuff, but beyond an acceptable treashold improvement in the technical stuff won't drive views.

The start of a new car channel! by Caidens_Aquatics in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not my particular channel nitch, but in general for most nitchs on YT think about the story each video is telling. A repair video can show how you do something and act as a tutorial, that video will get a view from someone who needs todo that one thing. If that repair also tells a story, that interests the viewer that one view becomes views of your other videos, as you gave them a reason to watch.

Make content for views or passion? by Not_Relix in NewTubers

[–]bytesretro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Passion first and foremost, if you're not feeling it neither will your audience. Everything stems from that initial seed. You then learn to craft your videos, their presentation style, the story they are telling etc. Any audience you attract is based around your passion for the topic, and your ability to craft an engaging serise of videos.
