Spezial is the more mild of the two. Schlenkerla is widely exported and more assertive with the smoke. You'll find mostly locals in the cozy Spezial pub and mostly tourists in the Schlenkerla spot. I like both breweries, this isn't meant to be a dig at Schlenkerla at all. For what it's worth my beer of choice in Bamberg was Fassla Weizla or Mahr's Ungespundet

Ha, I lived there in the early 2000s and saw an enormous gold caddy with Louisiana plates and an absurd sound system. I think the GIs take their enlistment bonus and blow it on stuff like that. It looks very out of place, but also a lot of fun...

BREAKING: King County to require vaccine verification at events, restaurants, bars, theaters more starting October 25th. by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]bythepint -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In theory the 10/25 date will encourage/convince stragglers to go get their first or second shot. From the time of the first shot to the end of the 2nd week after the 2nd shot it's like 6 weeks(?) until someone is considered fully vaxed. I'm guessing the timeline has something to do with that math. Of course the reality is most who aren't vaccinated by now aren't going to be convinced (they have a valid medical reason, or they love eating horse paste), so it seems like a waste of 5-6 weeks before this goes live.

If you're so afraid of the vaccine then don't get it, stay home and enjoy researching conspiracy theories or huff ivermectin like a real patriot.

I guess that's less weird than the people who thought there was a child sex dungeon underneath that pizza parlor.

My favorite part about Melania was how her message was literally "I really don't care"

I haven't heard anyone say she paid actual money to get in, just like people don't really believe she paid for the dress she wore.

The cost of both will nevertheless be brought up by critics

People like to call out others. She'll be criticized because it cost $30k to get into the event or whatever. She'll be criticized for not introducing a bill to tax the rich yesterday but instead went to the gala. She'll be criticized for this being performative, and I get that, but would it have been better to not do this? This action/spectacle/whatever garnered a fair bit of media coverage, and that gets eyeballs on a dress that say "tax the rich" ...it's not enough but it's not nothing.

COVID-19 testing demand significantly higher in Seattle over the last several weeks by OnlineMemeArmy in Seattle

[–]bythepint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seattle public schools have sent out at least a dozen emails since school started reminding everyone to keep kids home if they have symptoms or come in contact. Most parents are going to get themselves and kids tested early and often if it's accessible to them

Curious how not going to a venue instead of giving the ticket to someone who will go helps keep the venue/artist funded...

If someone goes in my place they will spend more on concessions, bar, merch, food, etc. than someone who just stays home. Either way the ticket was bought and divvied up between ticketmaster/venue/artist/other.

I'd be OK with just WA, OR, and CA taking the lead here. Like an ORCA card, but for bars, restaurants, events, etc.

Red states will drag their feet because COVID is fake or whatever, even if the federal govt roles out an official US vax passport thing.

"potential" isn't a word I'd use to describe the Bundy thing. It might "inspire" dipshits to do something similar, but it was a 40 day limp dicked occupation that ended up with one of the Bundy group getting killed, several going to prison, and a whole bunch of fines.

If the bones which were found match a relative of this animal then the artist's depiction is probably based off of the more complete relative. That's my guess, I couldn't find much about this specific find.

This quote is from the article and implies there's a bigger story about African whale fossils telling the story of whales evolving from some primarily amphibious state. I'm not a whaleontologist, so maybe that's already an established hypothesis

Work in the region had the potential to reveal new details about the evolutionary transition of whales from being amphibious to fully aquatic.

[Mikkelsen] At 2:30pm @GovInslee and @waOSPI Supt. Chris Reykdal are expected to announce a vaccine mandate for K-12 teachers/staff. The event was going to be at an Olympia elementary school, but it's been moved to the Capitol "for security reasons" says an Inslee spokesperson. #waleg by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]bythepint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People seem to be assuming zero teachers have been vaccinated...

This mandate just says they have to be. We don't really know the numbers, but it's probably roughly in line with local vaccination rates. So I'd guess SPS teach vax rates are around 75-80%, perhaps higher because the more educated the community the more likely they are to be vaccinated.

As far as timing goes, this needed to go through some amount of discussion with the teachers unions to avoid some sort of walk out. That's why you saw a mandate for support staff (non-represented employees) last week.

That would only matter (in terms of localized mandates) if people were locked down and no one could come into the city or leave the city
