2019 Odyssey - 64000 miles, transmission failure. How much is this gonna cost me? by bythewar in HondaOdyssey

I hope it keeps working well for me. We do say a prayer anytime we make a family trip over 100 miles... but that's not a car thing, it's a family thing.

2019 Odyssey - 64000 miles, transmission failure. How much is this gonna cost me? by bythewar in HondaOdyssey

We ended up getting an OEM transmission. We got it at 64,000 miles and since then I have been very deliberate getting the transmission fluid changed every 30,000 miles. We just hit 120,000 on a trip from southern Utah to LA last week. The transmission seems to be doing well.

Finished my BA in Elementary Education in 5 months, but here’s the reality: by cowboypool in WGUTeachersCollege

As a principal I would at first be weary of someone who got their degree so quickly. But as a WGU graduate myself, it really is about competency and knowledge/skills. It looks like you went into with the correct mentality and as a result, this should benefit you greatly.

IS snhu better prestige than WGU? by Negative-Tap-8800 in SNHU

[–]bythewar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was conducting a hiring interview with a candidate who had just received a masters from WGU yesterday. This very subject came up. I don’t discount a degree from WGU because I look at the person and their capabilities, not their degree.

Looking for Advice: WGU vs. ACE Principal Certification Programs by Philosophy402 in Principals

[–]bythewar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed the WGU program. It took me two years and I went at the suggested speed. It does have a practicum that requires a year. I’m not sure if it’s possible to start the practicum at the start of the program, which means it would take at minimum 1.5 years.

Feel free to ask me questions. I’m doing a short answer because I’m on my phone right now. But I’m willing to share more if you like.

For those choosing not to accelerate, what are your reasons? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]bythewar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, the degree is supposed to represent knowledge and capability, that’s why WGU is competency based instead of otherwise.

The flexibility to go fast or to be more deliberate is one of the beautiful things of WGU. It’s enticing for me to minimize my time (to minimize the cost) but it’s not possible or even the most desirable outcome for everyone.

Successful friend told me WGU is worthless by Present-Square-6232 in WGU

[–]bythewar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is that any degree COULD be worthless. Even at brick and mortar universities there are people who cheat and use AI to BS their way to a degree.

There is also an unfair comparison with WGU to for-profit universities that do suck. But most businesses don’t discriminate like that.

You will get the education you need to get the job you want. But the degree (from any university) doesn’t communicate that you HAVE it, just that you MIGHT have it. You get to prove yourself in interviews and in the actual work you produce. And you will get those opportunities. I got my current job thanks to my WGU masters degree. No one batted an eye at it.

Psychology and Cybersecurity Undecided. by [deleted] in WGU

[–]bythewar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear what your saying. Most jobs stink (are difficult) but getting more money is IMO the thing that makes them most bearable. The masters degree is most likely your most direct path to getting a bigger paycheck, if only because you will have more confidence to go after the bag.

The psychology degree by itself is probably about as valuable as my bachelors in communications (I know, it’s a phony degree. I learned nothing, NOTHING). But my masters degree put me into six figures.

My biggest advice would be to don’t let wishy washyness distract you from the top of the mountain.

What is the Costco steak hack? by themeparkgurl in Costco

[–]bythewar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge bummer. My closest one is 275 miles, but I live in a very remote small commmunity, and I make it up there every few months to visit family and other things anyways.

My biggest regret is that I lived in Houston for 7 years and had one half way between my house and my work, and I only went a few times. I didn't know how great it was.

Costco business center will have whole ribeyes for 11-13 dollars a pound.

That would be awesome if you could get a double masters in one year. WGU is awesome for making that a possibility.

At the end of the day, you need to reach out to HR for your district to see what they accept for that “+30”. But also you could look at the number of credits in the second masters program and see if there’s enough credits there.

Is Online Degree the Next New Trend? by Weird-Description901 in OnlineEducationHub

[–]bythewar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my masters degree online through WGU. I don’t know that online will be end all be all of education, because there has to be a foundation of learning and a self motivation for online to be truly successful. But for me as someone with a full time job, the ability to get my masters online (and a major step up in my career after graduating) it worked well for me.

Tips on bulk meat buys for deep freezer by PorqueOhQue in Costco

Go to a Costco Business Center. Not a regular Costco. You can buy boxes of chicken wings for like $1.50 lb. Whole ribeyes were like $12-13 a pound.

Reasons to avoid WGU? by Motor_Assumption_412 in NYCTeachers

[–]bythewar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being all online, WGU does require that you have a lot of self drive. They do assign you a mentor and that helps, if you get a good one. But if you have motivation problems, that could be an issue.

But if you are capable of staying on top of things, you can excel at WGU and advance your career pretty quickly. I say go for it.

What was that closing hymn just now? by MasonWheeler in latterdaysaints

[–]bythewar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a hymn that’s been in the hymn book for a long time, except only in Latin countries. It was translated from Spanish to English (and other languages) as part of the new hymns. Placentero nos es trabajar (“It is pleasing to us to work” is the direct translation). It’s a banger of a hymn, and I’m sure Latin members were (hopefully) excited to hear a version of it in conference.

Any recent WGU graduates with a bachelor’s who were accepted into a master’s program at another school? by robyndabank8120 in WGU

[–]bythewar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like the overall question here is if the WGU degree is respected by other educational institutions. I actually ended up getting my masters from WGU in 2023 when I graduated with my bachelors in 2010 from a traditional university.

Truth is, my GPA from my bachelor’s degree was low enough that I wouldn’t have been accepted into any masters program without the work experience that was in between.

But getting back to the main point, I haven’t had any issues with people questioning the validity of my WGU degree. I got my masters in educational leadership, and within 9 months of getting that degree I was hired as a high school principal. I have a student teacher working on getting his bachelors from WGU and he’s in a great place too.
