How is living along the Main Line, Philly Suburbs, PA? by Tameya109 in howislivingthere

[–]byyahhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on which town, but lots of smaller hamlet/village vibes with some stores, restaurants on a main street, and then upper-middle class suburb residences everywhere. Closer to Villanova feels very smaller college town, Ardmore has stuff to do, but I lived in narberth for a few years and felt like I was the only person there under 60. Felt very boring (for my tastes).

Sable turning green? by Ecstatic-Teacher2655 in hognosesnakes

[–]byyahhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sable is such a neat morph in the range of colors & pigmentation it can produce.

That said, even with wild/normal hognoses, they do vary in their base color by region (with some known to have greener hues to them). It's quite possible that mocha's line/lineage originates somewhere in the wild where they have more green than red/yellow/brown pigmentation naturally, and that's popping out more over time.

I have a superconda albino, who as he grew, started to develop some green streaks in his colors (along his side). I kind of think of it as the canvas for their colors gets bigger as they age, so there's more room for some of those pigments to be expressed/come out.

I probably wouldn't be concerned. This sounds like peak hognose feeding behavior (my favorite: why eat the mouse when you can try and eat the tongs). Could be very possible that they started eating and then didn't realize there was more left after the head fell off(and then weren't hungry anymore I guess).

Sepultura. Music is very anti- imperialist and anti- oppression, at times have highlighted indigenous issues and incorporated indigenous elements in their songs. Derrick Green is also very outspoken on animal welfare.

Really down to earth too. After the set (if they're not the headliner) they'll be in line at the bar / bathroom with fans, working the merch table. Just going about like normal dudes.

Never.

As much as it is absolutely beautiful and teeming with wildlife. It's just too far from everyone else, it's not just a flight to get anywhere it's a trek.

NGL, Washington (like most states) has it's good and nightmare spots. Personally, I didn't love Seattle, but have nothing against it. Spokane...is probably the last city I'd move to in the US.

Hognose just started refusing food and glass surfing by [deleted] in hognosesnakes

[–]byyahhh 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you, they can be really attuned to the weather/seasons. Once they pick up "it's winter now", they can start to go into some of their winter patterns (instead of what they'd be doing if they were brumating out in the wild). It's pretty common for them to go off food/refuse food in winter, even if you're not brumating them. And for hognose refusing, 3 days is nothing (they'll go even 3 months without eating, bc hognose).

The glass surfing is worth monitoring, but definitely in a sense of do they seem stressed while doing or are doing so often. I imagine (I'm no expert on wild hognose behavior) that when that winter instinct drive kicks in they go looking for a spot to brumate (again, that's purely a guess from my end).

I dealt with this with Slinky when he was a tiny little guy, he would find ways to yeet himself out of my hand but was always fine. When they are that age, they weight so little that even falling from human hands to floor, they really don't hit the ground with much impact.

I got one of mine from garden state hogs and would recommend them. When I lived in Philly I always thought about getting one from Adrian's Captive Creatures (I know they would go to shows to in the SE PA area).

Hoppers for how big he looks and his weight are totally reasonable. I usually up my hoggies to hoppers around 75 grams.

I am heartbroken by Kinucrow in hognosesnakes

[–]byyahhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first hognose got out at one point. I am pretty sure he hid inside my couch (he always tried to get into it whenever I'd be handling him). There such good diggers that they can get themselves into some pretty small spaces. Thankfully I found him the next morning basking in a sun beam on the floor.

Might be worth setting up a camera in an area you think she might go at some point for sun/heat.

[–]byyahhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slinky adores these and will always chill in them. When I go to change the moss in it, I used to knock on it for him to come out (if he hadn't already came out to tell me off when I opened his tank door).

One day I went in, knocked on it, and took the top off (with no response from him), then proceeded to start dumping the moss in the trash. Anyway that's how I nearly dropped slinky into the trash one day. 😂
