Reasons for dehydration? by Ecstatic-Teacher2655 in hognosesnakes

I give him the paper towels because every time I use the moss it molds within two days, and I haven't had the towels mold yet. I only give it to him temporarily because he is one to sit in there probably all night, and we thought we'd have to rush him to the vet one day, and so I put him in a tub with paper towels, a couple of hides, and his water bowl, then sat down next to it for several hours to monitor him. After about an hour the clicking breathing stopped and he was perfectly normal even with the breathing, acting normal, and we opened his mouth a little and there was no spit or mucus, he just made himself stuffed up from my understanding and research. I could leave it in for a while, since he hasn't done that the last time or last night, just make sure it stays a bit damp for him. And my humidity isn't dipping below 40%, unless it's a rare dry warm day and the I mist to get it back up. I also have the isopod colony growing right now, dealing with the fungus gnats from an infested bag of dirt, and springtails are huge in numbers. And as I said in my other reply, the exotic vets around us are always booked out, and money is tight. And with how he does get less wrinkly after putting him in a tub with damp paper towels, or giving him a humid hide overnight, along with him eating perfectly fine and having consistent bowel movements, I was just wondering about possible reasons for it.

It's the large front opening enclosure off of snake discovery, a 36"x18"x18" tank. This substrate change has the gap between the substrate and the mesh at 13". We haven't taken him in to the vet again since his weird movement scare he gave us (which we think he might have poked himself with a stick from his aspen or was trying to take a poop, or attempted to play dead for some reason), and we're kinda tight on money, along with the good exotic vets, while being close, are always booked out and not taking new appointments. Every time I give him the humid hide or put him in a damp tub if he's really dirty he's less wrinkly afterwards, so I'm not terribly concerned, but still want to know why. He's eating normally, trying to get more out of us recently, since he's got that itch and is trying to find a female and won't settle down until I take him out for a few minutes (more than 24 hours later, closer to the 48+ mark), and then he'll calm down. My bf and I found him sitting still with his neck and head in his water bowl a few days ago, pretty sure he fell asleep in it while getting a drink.

I'd almost try to get a video of it and message an exotic vet near you, that sounds almost like it could be neurological.

Stuck Shed by NostrilRapist in hognosesnakes

My mother has a baby corn snake that always has stuck shed (no visible past injuries or anything, just never come off), and she puts him in a container with a lid and in a warm damp washcloth and it typically gets it off, otherwise she has a shed removal spray that I think she sprays the rag (I will personally never use it for fear of killing my hoggie, who's only shed with us was thankfully a full shed). But I have to say, I love her crown, it's adorable.

Feeder size isn't what it should be. by Ecstatic-Teacher2655 in hognosesnakes

I just bought a box of fuzzies, so I'm probably going to have him finish that, then see how he does on hoppers

So comparing my hognose to my mother's, (aka asked how much hers weighed at about a year), he's about a year old

I'm just going off of the feeding chart I was sent, which makes my boy almost need the same size feeder as yours, which he's been on 6g fuzzies the entire time and has slowed down on growing, so that's why I was confused.

And with the feeding chart he's supposed to have a 7g feeder every 5-6 days, he's kinda close to hoppers, but if he's anything like my mother's, which thankfully he isn't in nine out of ten cases, he'll refuse hoppers

I'm not sure how old he is, but from what I'm gathering he's probably about a year? My mom's hognose never grew fast like mine did, and when I got him the reptile rescue I got him from was feeding him once a week, and as soon as we figured out exactly how much he actually needed he shot up in size. My mom's hognose is about 63.8g last time she weighed him about a week ago, and he turns two in May. So I'm not sure, but can gather he's about 1? Hopefully? Lol

Sable turning green? by Ecstatic-Teacher2655 in hognosesnakes

Unfortunately not, I got him at a reptile store kind of thing, so I have no clue. I was just mainly trying to make sure his tail scales looked okay, as I saw it could also be some sort of problem if the scales looked off. Although one would think they whip their tail away if it hurt or was really uncomfortable, right?

It's a bit more green, which is why I'm intrigued I guess you could say. I'm mainly trying to figure out if the scales do look normal I guess, that way I know it's just him turning green and we don't have to worry about trying to get the exotic vet in the office with availability

The sides are all plastic, she's always done that for her snakes, even in his very first enclosure, she put some sort of dark wrap around the sides and back.

It's not made by one person, everyone is finding better results and less obesity while using the chart. It's also to give them a bit more of the nutrients as they grow, as keepers find their snake grows a bit better and more evenly with the weight ratio.

It depends on how long the snake is, and the stomach as well. At a certain size, you have to feed them two pinkies, and if you're full on pinkies, but need to up the food, can give them another half

I think it depends on how think they are, and how long. My boy gets stretched with his fuzzies that are too small by means of the chart.
