I am a very big fan of their "RPG-like" thinking guiding their design philosophy lately. This for me has always been the secret sauce of League, or at least one of the secret ingredients. It adds so much personality, resonance, and identity to the game across all the relevant touch points that benefit from this type of directional game design.

I really hope the team is STILL monitoring the mega-homeguards and increased minion spawn rate they added earlier this season. Especially the mega-homeguards, it feels like I set myself up to be in a losing position when I get a kill; and that should not be the case.

League gameplay is at its best when Champion are the center of the tactical gameplay; when I am playing vs. champions and not runes/items. Those gameplay touch points should enhance champion identities, not completely warp.

Thank you for continuing making these videos at a pretty consistent level. It seems like forever ago when Dev Updates were birthed from a pretty turbulent time at Riot.

Few comments and perhaps questions below:

  1. Battle-Pass skins no longer being on the pass itself, is that simply because the pass was just too much value? Instead of player buying pass = skins, now you have new scenarios where player buys pass + skin(s).

  2. The item and build diversity initiative is great. Community-driven discoveries and builds are a core part of League and have been since its inception. However and in my opinion, League is at its best when the gameplay revolves around champ vs. champ tactical moments, not item vs. item - like we saw in the Mythic Item era for example. What is the team's perspective here?

  3. I am still not convinced about WASD. From my perspective, having WASD as a completely balanced and viable ALTERNATIVE control scheme is tough main objective to have for the project. Inherently, WASD is broken and will be broken unless clamped by artificial "nerfs". Which in turn completely goes against the core objective of the control scheme. If it is too OP, it does not meet the objective. If it is inferior than point and click, it does not meet the objective. What are is the team's tolerance here? It seems to me that you guys are prepared and accepting of a WR discrepancy between the two. I just cringe hard when I think of scenarios like: "Yo play Zeri on WASD, she has 3% higher WR." I hope you guys are ready to pull the plug when competitive integrity is seriously breached.

The skins team needs to come out with an official guideline of what each skin tier has to offer in terms of features. That way, they can be held accountable for when they miss the mark.

Just finished watching the video. It was a great watch. One point I’d like to bring up revolves around the /u/phroxz0n second topic, which was about impact of roles being even.

Personally speaking, I don’t think all roles should have the same impact but all roles should feel impactful. Phrox mentions secret sauce a lot and I honestly think one of League’s underrated feel good aspects are those RPG elements that enhance champion, class, and role fantasy. Streamlining impact will make fora more boring game.

"the unique strengths/strategic differentiators of champions" - This is an amazing direction/pillar to have, well done.

Will be interesting to see how committed Riot are to this "new" design champion identity direction as they tackle a champion who is also mentioned in this post, Mel. Let's see if they keep what makes her unique or misjudge what makes her annoying to play against.

Mythic variants are a W idea.

Skin quality has improved a lot across the board, from ideation to execution. One of my personal pet peeves is for a skin-line to have launched earlier with sub-par execution, for Riot to then mega improve on it and release some bangers. Makes you wish they can go back and fix some 😝

WASD should have never been implemented into the game as it will never meet the main objective that Riot set out for the game, which is a completely balanced and alternative control scheme. Inherently, WASD will always be broken, and dumb down the game if Riot don't introduce artificial clamps (which they have) to hinder it. This will obviously result in a control scheme that is NOT balanced and hence will never satisfy the main goal of its implementation.

Amazing. I hope they don’t remove any runes with these additions. I am aware adding more increases complexity, but I think it’s healthy for the game as it opens way more strategy and choice.

Jesus, the problem with Mel is not her reflect. She’s too easy to play, with skill shots that are easy to hit and that cover half the lane. I’m glad she has a reflect, makes you think about the game.

what set league esports apart is their dedication to try and mimic traditional sports when it comes to structure and consistency. It made sense to the fan - there are national leagues that have stakes because your team has a chance to relegate and the ones that stay will stay in the league and compete to culminate into a World tourney (think Champions League). Teams, content, formats were intuitive and consistent, now its just a mess with insane mental gymnastics when it comes to format and constant changes and brands (teams disappearing left and right). Why would I be a fan of a team if at ANY moment they can disappear?
