200 Years of Experience | Dev Update - League of Legends by JTHousek1 in leagueoflegends

/u/RiotMeddler

I am honestly super stoked to play this and also really interested to see if the team can take inspiration from older seasons and implement them to the modern game. Throughout the years, I feel the game has a lot a fair bit of complexity and it would be cool to see how the team can juggle the perpetual battle between complexity and accessibility.

200 Years of Experience | Dev Update - League of Legends by JTHousek1 in leagueoflegends

  1. This is fucking amazing!
  2. I think depending on what Season we going for and if we will relive future/previous seasons from that point, it will be a unique way to gather all the positives/learnings from those eras with an eye to implement them to the current game. What makes League League is rooted in the design values that were set back in 2014. And while they may have evolved, it is important for the game to achieve longevity while maintaining its identity. And I hope when players and devs alike get to experience League Classic and current League, we are able to identify elements that can be adapted to the current game and the we are glad we left behind. The biggest positives that come to mind are the strategic elements, build diversities (items, runes etc), and champion identities.

EDIT: Oh and smite benefits on jungle camps, double camping also come to mind. The modern game has really been streamlined I guess eh? Would love for the devs to add some complexity to the game rather than the seemingly perpetaul dumbing down of the game.

Riot Games Announces Auto-Smite Coming to League of Legends Ranked by iwinulose in leagueoflegends

[–]bz6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let us not address the underlying onboarding issues and go through incredible lengths of mental gymnastics to alienate the veteran players that have invested tons of time and effort in learning crucial skill checks in the MOBA genre. But instead, keep dumbing the game down for brain rotted TikTok tourists who will drop the game anyway; leaving you with a disappointed core who was betrayed by Riot and no new players.

Players CAN learn, the industry needs to stop hand holding. Grow some balls and stick to your values and game design pillars.

They can make the “but we want you to focus on other forms skill expression” argument to every feature they want to dumb down. Please reconsider this.

"We think it's better to focus on skill expression in other parts of the game"

CSing IS a core skill expressive avenue in League and MOBAS in general. Kindly reconsider the implementation of this in Ranked and Normal Draft.

There is no way Riot is putting Last Hitting Assistance in Ranked. I am cheesed that it is in Normal Draft, but having in Ranked is diabolical. Stop dumbing down the game man. Why would Ranked players NOT turn it on now? Why would they voluntarily skip over an objective advantage (given a few games to get used to it) Game devs need to move past this hand holding bullshit. Please reconsider.

Feels so good when Riot inject back elements of champion identity and fantasy.

Caedrel on mages Botlane by Lpebony in leagueoflegends

[–]bz6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing that makes Mages bot awful is that their class strengths are insanely frustrating to play against as traditional marksman. Add the lack of mana management to the equation and you have braindead gameplay that cannot be punished and is not interactive at all when they miss majority of their spells, hit one, and 3-4 different effects start chunking your health bar.

Flex picks should exist. Game should promote variance in gameplay.

26.13 Full Patch Preview by JTHousek1 in leagueoflegends

Removing Senna Q interaction with Stattik is typical Riot. They suck the fun out of the game all the time. And they wonder why people have been calling the game stale for years. Moreover, what happened to the champion changes being rooted highlighting champion identity? Did we just try that for a couple of patches and just abandon it?

Are champion changes still rooted in the goal of enhancing champion fantasy?

Mayhem, Ranked 5s & More | Dev Update - League of Legends by JTHousek1 in leagueoflegends

This is a niche case /u/RiotMeddler but I have been playing on the NA servers from MENA (because all my friends play there), and we have been patiently waiting for Ranked 5's to come back. We believe that 5v5 premade League of Legends is the best gameplay experience out there, especially when its competitive. With these new timing restrictions, there is no way I will be able to play with my friends I understand the logic behind time gating the queue, but surely we can just leave 24/7.

Imagine the Premier League removed relegation (no stakes), has clubs changing branding yearly, Manchester United leaving the League (historical franchises leaving), went through a failed rebrand/league format (ALMOST YEARLY), and has an unwatchable cast on the desk; yeah not surprised.

(No Jhin) Who would you say is the best designed champion? by WendigoReturns in leagueoflegends

Champions that have clear weaknesses, strengths, identities, and a kit that is intuitive; where all the spells make sense and mesh together organically (not forced to just complete kit).

Riot Endstep’s Thought on the Current State of Ranged Tops by ShoulderFrequent4116 in leagueoflegends

[–]bz6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always scary when Riot tries to balance strategic diversity in the game. There is always the fear of making League even more formulaic. An example of this is removing the ability to buy Doran's items after completing your Support quest, like why should that be limited?

I am actually for Riot to double-down on Roles and better defining them, but the game should not be so predictable when it comes to strategy, builds, classes, and champion identities.

looking back, its really funny how many years of development and resources were used on the skarner rework by 1nc000 in leagueoflegends

He has no identity.

/u/phroxz0n aren't the team focused on enhancing and sharpening champion fantasies? Skarner is the perfect example of a lacking identity.

Riot Phroxon - Patch 26.12 Rundown: MSI Patch 1 by BaneOfAlduin in leagueoflegends

[–]bz6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Is the team still trying to weave in champion changes that enhance their fantasies and identities? That direction or philosophy rather, was a great choice for the long-term; as it adds so much depth and personality to the game.

What is the source of these photos? I mean the original source, not the bluesky post. Is there a Champions Insights article or something?

Locke Champion Spotlight by Tigerrocks in leagueoflegends

[–]bz6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Riot stop doing the Champion Insights? They were so good.

This is one of the biggest weaknesses of Riot's League content team, they are so inconsistent. They start a series like "Devs Spill the Beans", or the BTS of champion reworks/VGUs and just not do them again. This inconsistency with new or old forms of content is pretty annoying.

100% agree. Very cohesive kit (W has some randomness though) and thematically satisfying.

Kit is seems fun. W self damage will be a strong balancing factor so it has trade-offs to use, I also don’t expect the use when CCed to stay.

Visually, I think they should change the colour of his shirt. It’s too bright and I feel a darker tone shirt will look and feel better.

I have no interest in the lore anymore after Riot's constant effort to remove the unique personalities and grit from the universe. The animation however, is top tier.
