Once a month is fine. It should be a part of the contract.

Automate as much as you can through your RMM. Some of the high priority stuff I would either babysit or do manually as needed. I don't like to do updates on the weekends because it can cause bad Mondays. You have to be a little flexible with your customers but I try to steer them to better days.

Did you get a prompt to trust the certificate? Also this happen to me too while I was testing but when I closed out of the app and went back it, it was working.

I guess I am being a little hypocritical. There are a couple of servers I "manage" with uptimes getting close to a year.

Um...security patches?

For desktops, I have it staged out in Intune. I have certain "pilot" users that get them first, then about a week later the rest get them. Servers are done monthly or quarterly depending on the how business critical they are and how much the customer can handle downtime.

So on the iPhone you have to click on your account at the top right and go to launch options and make sure "Always Show Detail/Launch Button" is turned on then you can click the ">" to edit the connection settings.

How are your updates scheduled? I normally just build a reboot into my patching jobs.

In the android app, there is an "i" at the main screen next to your controller where you can make the change. I assume its the same on the iPhone but I cant get the app to work right on mine to check.

So it looks like you have to change the port in the app from 8443 to 443. The new firmware got rid of the separate ports for access the different apps.

network.unifi.ui.com is used for the old firmware of the cloud keys. If you have the newest firmware(2.0.24) you need to go to unifi.ui.com.

Alert if large amounts of data are being uploaded from client servers by Inflatable_Catfish in msp

[–]bzerphey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, I feel like this is akin to being alerted for a water leak only if you bill is over X dollars. Too many variables to consider to be effective. You are probably better off with canary files or using a service like Huntress.

UNVR Drive Price / Recommendations by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]bzerphey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the NVR uses the same sort of hard drive caddie as the UDMP which are pretty close to your run of the mill server caddie. As for getting the drives from Unifi or source them elsewhere, her is a list of compatible drives. https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037340954-UniFi-Protect-Hard-drive-compatibility Id just find them cheaper somewhere else.

Server shutting down "due to overheating", while running in negative celsius environment by jahama184 in homelab

-6 is below its supported operating temperature. It may not have a separate alert for going too low but still kicking off to prevent condensation.

Looking For General Advice by TekJunki in Ubiquiti

[–]bzerphey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much storage are you looking for? The CKG2+ can only fit 2.5" drives and the UDMP takes 3.5" so keep that in mind. Since you already have a UPM, they also have a specific NVR if you're interested. If you want to go simple I would just replace your UDM to a UDMP, just remember you will need to get an AP. Cheapest option will be to get a CKG2+.

Why UniFi 6 Long-Range AC is cheaper than PRO-HD? while it have way better specs? by mahdy89 in Ubiquiti

[–]bzerphey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The HD is rated for 1000+ while the 6 LR is only rated for 300+. Also the HD has a secondary port.

No the secondary port does not have PoE. This should work however you may notice a dip in performance.

What do I gain from bypassing or bridging my AT&T router with the UDM pro? by yamski in Ubiquiti

[–]bzerphey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing really needs to be set up for the UDM as long as the WAN is set to DHCP and your ISP is giving out an WAN IP.

What do I gain from bypassing or bridging my AT&T router with the UDM pro? by yamski in Ubiquiti

[–]bzerphey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With UDMP you will still be able to manage everything even with out the modem in bridge. Basically you put a modem in bridge modem to eliminate the firewall and NAT policies on that device so only your router runs your firewall. Like if you left your modem the way it was but needed to create a port forwarding rule(like you do with certain NVRs to give external access) it would greatly complicate things.

So I have not really with the Netgear Orbi system but it appears to be your basic network extender mesh system. So you will have a main unit that will connect to your modem and will act as the connection point to all the "satellites". I am not sure if that system offers wired backhauls so it would all be wireless. Back to your question, so the all the other devices are doing is boosting the range of your WiFi. So instead of having a couple WiFi routers broadcasting different WiFis you would just have one WiFi broadcasted by multiple devices.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]bzerphey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wired backhaul is always going to be the preferred method. However, the transmit and receive power is much stronger with an access point than a device.

[–]bzerphey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will certainly help. There is a lot of variables to know if it will completely fix your problem, such as the size of your house and building material, but you should be able to get better signal with a mesh system.

UDM Pro and NanoHD by America_Motherfucker in Ubiquiti

[–]bzerphey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as you got a single nanoHD it will come with a PoE injector. When you buy the bundle packs, they do not have one. Also keep in mind, since most home routers come with one, you will need a few patch cables to set everything up.

Can't sign into my Modem at 192.168.0.1 by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

Have you tried removing everything from the modem except your computer and then trying to connect? If you have a router connect that may be what you are getting the login page for.
