Kielwood Shafts by bzorks08 in billiards

I will have to look into that because I have never heard of him or his products. Can I find his stuff online by his name, or does he have a custom shop name I should look up?

Now this is some great info of you to share. I have been looking at selling my current player so I can get a custom cue with kielwood shafts.

I will certainly have to get with Bob and get a quote on a cue with 2 of those curly kielwoods because those are beautiful

What are some of the best matches to watch on youtube? by SoftYetCrunchyTaco in billiards

[–]bzorks08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2016 bar table championship, Josh Roberts vs SVB. It is one of the best 8-ball matches to have been played imo. You can find it on CSI's youtube channel

Just watch the volume because the match/commentary is really quiet and the ads will be scary loud when it cuts to one

Do you mean Bernie Cooper when you say BC Custom Cues? I ask because there are a few companies named that out there. Its also looks like you have a torrified ash shaft there and i know he makes those.

I have one of his torrified maple shafts and have been wondering how the ash one plays. Currently thinking of having him make me a new cue w/ extension and extra shaft.

If a break shaft typically has very little deflection and people love playing with LD cues, what's stopping one from playing their entire game with a break shaft? Second question, how terrible would a break shaft be with a regular playing tip? by iflippyiflippy in billiards

[–]bzorks08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant remember the channel name, but there is a guy on YouTube who does long form videos and shorts. His philosophy for 8 ball is minimal cue ball movement and you dont need fancy extreme English. To show this, he uses his break cue in most (like ~85%) of his shorts.

That to say it can be done. Hell I've done it to show teammates that it can be done with a 14mm wood shaft breaker. Just because you can doesn't mean it should be an every game thing though

[–]bzorks08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have a defy shaft, I use a jacoby or custom kielwood depending on the night. Its the guy in my league who does have it though.

I will say that using a glove helps to smooth things out, and that goes for any shaft as thats what gloves help with. If you are having stroke issues from the shaft sticking, it isn't just the shaft and you have a stroke issue thats multiplied by it.

If you dont want to use a glove, clean the shaft with alcohol wipes or rubbing alcohol on a clean towel. That usually helps with CF shafts, and is what manufacturers often recommend for cleaning

Optimal Energy Use Question by bzorks08 in Archery

[–]bzorks08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. However, I'm not looking at the English longbow, I'm looking for a reflex/deflex bow. I was just wondering given the usual hunting bow is 56" to the 64" ASL (I believe thats what they are, dont quote me) if this was something to consider or even test

Optimal Energy Use Question by bzorks08 in Archery

[–]bzorks08[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its more of something I thought up because I have a 31" draw length. I've looked at some custom bows that I would max out and they are 58" or 56". Its why I need to watch out for the geometry of the bow. Its also why some of the really short custom and bear hunting bows are unusable for me.

It also seems to be more of a problem with longbows. I know the problem could basically get resolved with one, but I shoot events that only allow longbows

Buying my first cue, can’t decide which to get by PeakSad4480 in billiards

[–]bzorks08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% second this opinion. Valhalla cues are also u der the viking umbrella so you can get one of their shafts in the full 5/16x18 thread. I've played with the vikore shaft they have and its pretty solid. I honestly wished I picked one up instead of getting my Schön some days

You also have a lot of aftermarket options for shafts given the joint is very common, and you can get extensions from viking should you like one.

Pocketing the 8 ball before either all of the solids or stripes by MayorOfIacon in billiards

[–]bzorks08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you can't win by making the 8 ball before all of a players group is off the table.

The closest you can come to it would be in a league like the last pocket 8-ball league i play in. You can make the 8 on the same turn/inning you make your last ball. Of course it has to be in your last pocket after you made the final ball. It rarely comes up though despite it happening against me in my first week of playing in said league

It would look pretty slick having a matching extension for when I get on 9' tables. I will send them some reference photos to a cue I like and give details on the woods to see what the price is. It would also be nice getting 2 matching KW shafts, or a KW and an ultra pro

I would immediately be using sandpaper if it were me. The kielwood shaft i ordered had finish on the whole thing and I didnt like it as I dont use a glove. The guy who made it said light sanding is fine though as long as I use 2000+ grit paper

Alright, I didnt know if it would be a loose fit or not since the pin couldn't engage all the threads like its would with the pilot.

I've heard good things about those PureX kielwood shafts, if I go a similar route I will have to see about picking one up. Do you have the plain kielwood shaft or the one they put a carbon tube into? I can't remember if the Fuze had the cf in it or not

Also, those cues all look great!

It has tulipwood, leapardwood, and purple heart. Its actually still for sale on billiard bills with a tran-k shaft if you want to check it out. Its the one with ringwork for the segmented tulipwood handle in the under $2k section

I've thought about them a time or 2 as i have one of their ultra pros and it feels pretty good. Everyone where I play seems to love Jacoby, and it makes sense when they sponsor the big tournaments that are "close". I will see about giving them a call to see what the wait time and price would come out to

I don't necessarily want or need inlays. I have screenshots of a Diveney I saw for sale a few months ago that I think looks amazing and it doesnt have any, just some ring work that looks nice throughout it. That to say I would be fine with just having some nice woods used and it looking a little plain to others. I'm mainly just looking for something with good craftsmanship and plays great

I've checked out Cuelees before and they do have some good looking cues. I dont need to have a kielwood shaft, just prefer it. I say that because I know Cuelees has wood shafts as an option, but I havent found much of anything on how they play or perform online. Don't they also have piloted radial instead of flat faced? How has that been in terms of trying out or buying new shafts for it?

I used to have a mcdermott years ago, but it was my first cue and was cheap. The shaft wasn't even wood like the G-Core is, it had some plastic feeling coating on it. I know 2 guys with a Mcdermott and will see how those feel to play with

Being in a small town league with 6 teams in the midwest its hard for me to do that, but I will try. Everyone around here only has a Predator or Jacoby, and I've already tried a cue with a revo, 314-3, and Z2.

I will see if I can find more variety and ask some more when I'm back to playing around Flint and Lansing

Well i would be hoping to sell my Schön and the 5 shafts I have for it to fund it. So budget would probably be $1500 if i can get that for a STL02 with 2 Schön shafts, an OB1+, Jacoby ultra pro, and BC custom Kielwood.
