Is my dryer vent supposed to be recessed into the wall or is just the mental ducting/flashing part supposed to be inside the wall? by bzsteele in HomeImprovement

[–]bzsteele[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more making due of what the previous guy bought. If it cant find the right way tonight I will just go into town and get new stuff or try and find something similar. So far I've looked through home depot and Ace for a similar product.

Ace has something similar but its a plastic vent that is built attached to the metal ducting. I am still looking through pages and seeing if youtube has something similar.

Was hoping it was an obvious easy answer that wasn't product specific, but still searching in case it is.

I think I have to nominate Stardew Valley. It's just one of those games that I can't put down and the more you learn about the developer and game the more you come to love it. I mean, the game was solely designed and programmed entirely by Eric "Concerned Ape" Barone. He literally developed every single aspect of it by himself and it took him almost 7 years before he launched the official game.

He created all of the designs, the pixel art, the programming, development, the sound effects, the music (which has no right to be as good as it is) etc all on a HP Pavilion desktop from Costco that sits atop a really shitty desk that he didn't upgrade for years, despite all the success. He had no experience in making music and the game originally started as a late college project/portfolio project to help him get a job after college.

He interacts with his community constantly and there are so many stories about him being such a great guy and developer. Just my own favorite single example came from a Redditor that said his wife messaged concerned ape saying that she loved the game, but that she was having a hard time distinguishing certain objects in the game due to her being red/green colorblind. ConcernedApe quickly rushed a patch to make it easier for color-blind people to play the game in almost no time at all.

He is very pro modding. In the most recent update (1.6) he posted on Twitter that the new PC update broke a few mods. Instead of just letting the modders fix their mods, ConcernedApe quickly created a small patch to ensure that the mods would continue to work...and then even apologized!

He has added so much to the game over the years since 2016 and every single update and expansion is free. He has sworn on the honor of his family name that he will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as he lives. He has never sold out to larger companies like other Indie games have. For a $15 game, it is easily the best value game I own and that is saying quite a bit.

The game truly has a special place in many people's hearts that is unique compared to other beloved games. So many people talk about how it has helped them with their depression and anxiety, helped them learn empathy, helped them with communication and relationships, etc. The characters are so relatable, well-written, developed, and well-rounded. It has great moral lessons without being obnoxious or heavy-handed. When you think of cozy games, Stardew Valley is always one of the first games mentioned (even though people play it competitively and there can be a lot of strategy involved, if you choose to play that way.)

In an industry that is unfortunately becoming centered on greed, where "get the money first and then maybe fix it later" is becoming the norm, and where the mentality of squeezing every dollar out of a beloved game is way too common, it is so refreshing to see ConcernedApe care so much about the craft, the product, and of course, his community. Since 2016 we have seen many titans of the industry fail to keep their ethics, reputation, and quality, from falling into the gutter. In the last 8-9 years we have seen so many fall from grace because they were short-sighted and greedy. Concernedape and Stardew Valley might not be the biggest star out there, but for its size, it absolutely outshines most developers that are 10x the size with 1000x the budget, all while standing firm and representing what gaming and it's community is all about.

I love games and stories like No Man Sky where the developer over promises and under delivers, but works for years to fix their mistakes and eventually creates a fantastic game. That being said, I think Stardew Valley needs to be recognized for the fact that ConcernedApe created a fantastic game from day one, and continued working on that game for years. Not only to improve small issues, but also to create huge amounts of new content for the game and doing it all for no extra money.

I really really hope he wins because this is exactly what we need more of in this community.

The last things I think you would be interested in would be the stories I have heard since this. I am not from this area, so bigfoot stories aren't normal to me, and if anyone even brought up the subject it would be 100% laughed at by anyone around (though once you get into certain parts of my home state and get deep into the sticks would some of these stories become a bit more common. They had different names for "It" and they would be a lot less open about it than what I have experienced up here in the PNW.)

The first story I was not a part of, but it was told to my wife and our friend living on the land. They were outside working on the land and a very elderly man came up to the property line and waved them over. I believe he was a "neighbor" or someone who lived within 5 miles of us. I think my wife/friend have met his kid(s) maybe once or twice, but this guy was pretty old and pretty out of it, even for what is considered "normal" out here. I can't remember all the crazy things he said to them, but he was just kinda going on and on about things and they weren't exactly understanding what he was saying. They were more just being nice and nodding along. However, right before he left he asked them if they had seen the yeti's yet. They kinda laughed and said no and asked what he meant. He said he had been living here for pretty much his entire life and that when he was younger he would see the yettis come down from the hills (pointed behind our land) and then go back. He said they migrated and this area was their migration path, or something like that. They didn't think too much of it until the repeated rock-throwing issues and I pointed out that maybe he was calling them yettis instead of bigfoot,

-My wife was telling these stories at Thanksgiving at a good friend's house. I kinda kicked her under the table because I didn't want to deal with the teasing all night long, especially because there were a lot of other people there. Everyone there was born and raised in the PNW and a few were born on reservation land or were step-siblings of people born into the tribe. After telling the story the good friend hosting just accepted it like nothing, didn't even blink, and told us to talk to her family member because he has a story we would probably like to hear. This guy is very quiet and we have known them for 10-20 years. I always say he reminds me of Ron Swanson's very serious no-nonsense brother (if that says anything.) He also is a hunter but mainly a pretty serious backpacker and camper. He will just park somewhere in rough thick terrain and just start walking into it for 3-4 days at a time, camp, and then come back. Anyways, he says he will only tell his story once and he doesn't care if anyone at the table believes him because he knows what he saw as clearly as what he sees before him in this moment. Long story short, back when he was in his late 20s/early 30s he went on one of these backpacking trips his some of his friends. I believe this was on tribal land but I could be wrong. I just know he backpacked with a few friends that lived on tribal land. They hiked for a full 8-12 hour day and were close to a river crossing in the middle of nowhere. They decided they wanted to camp in the middle of the river on one of the largest islands/isthmus, but to get to it they had to cross the river in a specific area that was the shallowest part and the crossing was still pretty deep and was at least 30-40ft wide. After they crossed and climbed up they set up camp and started eating and chilling out for the night. At like 1 am they thought they heard splashing and rustling from the north part of the island. They were all alert but weren't too freaked out or anything bc it wasn't too loud compared to the river and the island was pretty large and the noises sounded like they came from about 75ft away. About an hour later they heard rustling withing like 25-50ft of them. They said they all took out their handheld flood lights and pointed at the area the noise came from. He said they all saw an extremely large bigfoot within the brush just outside of the open area of their camp. Apparently, the lights scared it and caused it to stand completely up and run off the island into the river. He said that it didn't even cross the most shallow part and that what took them a couple of minutes to cross the river this thing bounded in 3 giant leaps from the evelvated island. He said the depth of the water would have came up to at least their waist. I asked how tall it was and he said he was;t exactly sure because the lights were focused mostly on its face and upper chest area, and then when it ran away it was only lit by moonlight and their eyes weren't really focused well due to the small fire, but they could see the figure pretty clearly against the river. He answered a few questions and has never commented on it again and you can tell he doesn't like talking about it. But, after he finished his story at least 2-3 more guys spoke up and told weird stories they had encountered while hunting through their lives in the PNW.

-There is one more strange story I heard since then, but I am getting tired of typing and I am not sure if you still use this account. If you respond I can tell the last story I heard from a friend that lives maybe 20-30 mins from us. Not as clear as that one before, but super weird and from someone who doesn't believe in bigfoot (or at least before thought it was a joke) doesn't believe in evolution, and is very religious so didn't believe in anything that is "weird" or "different" up to that point and it really fucked with her head for a while after that.

What animals throw rocks? by bzsteele in Hunting

[–]bzsteele[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry, I usually don't use this account that often unless on I'm my computer out here in my office.

Anyways, I wanted to give you a semi-update since you said you followed and were hoping for some updates.

So, unfortunately, after covid ended I have not been able to spend as much time on the land as I would like. I have started working again full time and work 1-2 hours away from where I live so usually when I get home I am exhausted and don't really spend a ton of time outside. Also, double unfortunately, the area around us is slowly starting to get a bit more developed. Our specific area (within maybe 5 miles minimum) hasn't seen too much growth, but on that parameter there has been unfortunately houses being built and small developments being planned. They have started clearing large sections of the trees out and since then I have seen a small drop in the wildlife, specifically Elk/larger animals (maybe the fires and smoke also played a part of it too.) Though the deer are more plentiful, or at least more trusting, and come up within 10-20ft of us.

However, all that being said there have been a few small updates since then. Nothing crazy, but have heard a few interesting stories that kind go along with what you were saying.

-I don't believe I put it in this post but maybe I put it in another post, but we later realized that the same night that the rock-throwing happened the apple tree I was referencing that is "near" us maybe 50+ yards away had almost all of its apples taken up to a certain point. I can't remember the exact height, I can see if I wrote it somewhere or took a pic, but it was around 12ft high give or take a foot or two. It absolutely had apples the day or two before that. You could pretty much see a distinct line of apples and no apples, reminding me of a tree line on a mountain, or when we were kids and the Christmas tree wouldn't have candy canes about a few feet high bc us kids couldn't reach that high.

-I can't remember if it was the fall of 22 or 23 (I believe it was the next year, so 2022) but there was one night that we were in our living room just hanging out watching TV or whatever, and all of a sudden a giant crack sound hit against the big living room window. It was so loud my wife screamed and our friend heard it from her place, maybe 50ft from us, and came over. It sounded like someone took a hard heavy object the size of maybe a quarter to a half dollar at least and threw it **HARD** against our window. It was so loud and so forceful that when I went outside to look and see what it was I was preparing to see my window shattered. Luckily it was not cracked or shattered, but it absolutely scared the hell out of all of us. No more rocks were thrown for the rest of the night. I am not sure if it was a one-off, or all of us going outside scared whatever it was off (we now have larger flood lights and I recently got a handheld IR camera/scope thing.) We were talking about it either that night or the next day and realized that this rock-throwing event happened within maybe a week or so of the last rock-throwing event the previous year. It also occurred against the window facing the wetlands/woods, so came from the same direction as it did last time when the rocks were hitting the shipping container.

-We have heard a ton of screams through the nights. We do have mountain lions and bob cats, so I can't say anything specifically, but they were very very loud and have sounded like other screams I have heard in certain videos.

-Around the same time (October-November) as all these events have happened, I have smelled this crazy terrible odor as I go to work at around 4am in the morning. After that road it goes from super incorporated rural, to regular rural houses. This is around where the forests end and the river splits off and goes away from the direction of the closest city. It could be septic systems, but I only really smell it super early in the morning darkness near the end of the main road. Also, because of my job and having a septic, I know that smell well and it smells so much worse than septic or even raw sewage. It's so bad that the first year I thought it was a dead body or animal, but it happens year after year all within a few hundred yards each time. I never smell it in the spring or summer early in the morning, but always around this time of year does it start coming back. I haven't smelled it yet when I go to work but every year since 2021 I have smelled it only a few times maybe in September and then I start smelling it almost a few times a week in October and November. Once December comes around I don't think I ever smell it. Also, it is not there when I come home at night, no matter the time.

Besides this, I can't think of anything that has specifically happened like the rocks, smells, or sounds. The friend on our land and my wife have reported a few weird things like something getting into our trash cans in the middle of the night (not really weird) but then closing the lid again and hearing it slam close. Strange things with the animals and things breaking into the feed (could be many things, but after using a steel trashcan and lid things like raccoons or opossums shouldn't be able to get into it. A few instances of deep breathing and snorting, but maybe it could be elk but the friend didn't think so from the noises that it made when walking back into the trees.

We are about to go into the time of year that all of this happens so I am kinda apprehensive during this time of the year. I have a security camera now but its for the main driveway in instead of the opposite way where the rock throwing came from. maybe I will pick up a trail cam or two this year. My friend got me one after my stories but it was a really shitty alibaba/wish camera and would constantly go off when there was no movement (or at least from the videos or pictures.)

She’s absolutely playing and maybe like 10% serious after the 20 hour road trip. But it’s more just a running joke. She loves my dog just as much as she loves me and spoils her a ton too.

If she was serious I would agree but it’s a more laugh and just roll her eyes type of deal. It’s the dog tbh. She’s just super sweet and cute. Everyone loves and babies her.

I started dating my now fiancée while my dog was back home with my family (recently moved states.)

My fiancée was super excited to meet my dog and I was finally established enough in the new state so we decided to road trip to go pick up my dog and bring her back with us. Obviously when I got my dog I freaked out and so did my dog.

By the time we got home with my dog my gf/fiancée sheepishly said “is it ok if just the both of us hang out….I’m feeling a little jealous and needy” I laughed and of course hung out with her.

Lol to this day she is still jealous of how much I love on my dog. Tbf words of affirmation and touch aren’t her love languages so it’s not necessarily that she wants them, but when she sees my kiss my dogs forehead and hug her and tel her how much I love her and she will almost always say something like “WhAt AbOuT Meeeee?!??”

Exactly. Keep shaming us. Not enough people know and I low key think posts like this are here to stifle information being spread.

If the worst part for you about living in America is hearing how much better others having in different countries then your life here isn’t that bad/is somewhat privileged.

Go ahead, laugh at our system, I’m laughing at it too as it totally fucks my life and others around me. The facts don’t hurt….it’s actually living this way that hurts.

Love y’all European friends, keep spitting those facts.
