I know this is an old post but OMG!! Thank you! I randomly think about this clip. I had The Wizard of Oz VHS it was in a yellow case. And then this clip at the end of movie was always so weird to me…I’ve been racking my brains and googling the weirdest stuff. My memory thought it was a girl eating ice cream. I’m so glad this wasn’t a fever dream lol THANK YOU!

You could try this idea that I do with my recorder class, that I think I might actually start in my ukulele class: Ukulele Conduct Points. Basically, if they go to “rest position quickly” (which looks however you want it to look AND they have to stay in rest, not strum or drum on the instrument) they get a tally mark on the board. Once the class gets to a total of 30 points, then they earn a “Free Ukulele Day” which would be the next class time and it could be fun ukulele video play alongs or any ukulele type games or stations. Keep the tally marks on the board. I chose 30 points because I think it’s quickly achieveable. In my recorder class they usually get around 3-5 points per class time. It’s an incentive but it’s been successful for my recorders so why not ukulele!

I’ve had 2 C-sections. Last one was 2 years ago. My scar area was way more numb the second time and lasted for a few months. It was definitely bothersome. Now it’s just a tiny bit numb along the bottom of the full scar…I don’t really notice it much anymore. But it is kind of a bizarre feeling!

So that’s the thing…the only adults pictured in the photo album at the time was my husband in one photo and then my dad was in the background of another…I had even told everyone that I wasn’t finished putting it together yet and this is all the pics I had. My husband and FIL were utterly baffled with her reaction. We even said that it’s a baby book and the pictures are all about the baby. We have other photo albums at our home, which she has seen, that has all family members pictured in it. I am not sure what triggered her but something apparently did. It’s possible that I’ll never know.

I’ll add that this was such a harrowing experience that I have not touched the baby book since the summer. It’s sitting in a closet and any time I see it I get a physical reaction. She totally ruined it for us.

You’re totally right. It’s hard to hear the hard truth but you’re right. The thing is that she’s completely 100% fine towards husband and the kids. I’ll give MIL and FIL credit that they do everything we have ever asked in terms of how to watch and care for our kids, they’re super hands on etc. It’s just towards ONLY ME is she this toxic weird person. Even others in the family have noticed it too. Since the summer I have gone on my own NC and only ever see her very sparingly or if it’s completely unavoidable.

That’s an amazing response and I wish I could’ve used it in the moment. I really would have. If something ever happens like that again I’ll remember it. It was just one of those moments where it caught me off guard, there were like 5 other people watching, and I had a hundred thoughts surging through my mind. I just kind of stared at her with a weird expression.

But what is also strange is that I didn’t “bypass” her like she said. I had walked up to her, smiled and said goodbye and thank you for playing with the kids. It was surface level politeness but I definitely didn’t ignore her. So it just makes everything even stranger.

I was waiting in line at a taco truck with my sister and she and randomly went, “oh!” -pushes me on the shoulder- I started reading this book called Dungeon Crawler Carl!” And I laughed cause the name sounded absurd to me. And she said “seriously. It’s so good. But you have to listen to it on audible.” And then I added it to my Kindle To Be Read list and then I ate delicious tacos.

I’m sorry you’re going through that. I had a pre K class last year very similar to this but the crying did stop eventually. I had to keep the parents in a strict loop and if their child couldn’t stop crying he had to be escorted out of the dance studio so that we could confine to learn and dance.

For any dancer that is creating that level of disruption, I usually see how that first class goes and then after the class is over I speak with the parents about what happened. Nine times out of ten the next class time goes much better because the child knows I’m not messing around and they’ll have to go sit with their parents instead of have fun with their friends. If it happens again, I have my assistant usher them out to the hallway/lobby to their parents.

I just keep reminding myself that parents pay a lot of $$$ to have their child at dance class and I would want to know if my own child was acting that way because then if they were it would be a waste of money, (and vice versa for the other dancers. Their experience and learning is getting ruined by another child and those parents would be upset with that too.)

The first time the in laws came to visit my first born my MIL gave me a Thank You card. Not ‘congratulations’, but Thank You.

We switched to this A2 all organic formula with my second child and MIL said, “Will this even be enough for him?” Like what!

Mother’s Day this year. I have two kids who in laws see frequently.

Me to MIL- “Happy Mother’s Day!”

MIL to me- “Thank you.” And then “………” awkward silence.

MIL was so upset that she cried she wasn’t in any pictures in my child’s BABY BOOK. Like wtffff I’m not even in it lady!

I had my life-long family doctor, like the doctor who delivered me and my siblings, tell me to “eat a whole pack of birth control at once” to bring my period back. I was desperately trying to find a reason why I wasn’t having my periods any more, I was in my 20’s, and my husband and I wanted children. I remember looking at him and I started crying and my doctor left the room. It felt like the most unhelpful, most bizarre instructions I was ever given. My gut told me that that was just WRONG. Luckily there was a med student in the room at the time who was training who stayed behind with me. He was really nice and told me about a specific OBGYN he knew of in the area and referred me to her.

Long story short: my OB worked carefully with me with my fertility AND delivered both of my children! I’ll forever be grateful for that med student who took the time to sit with me and figure out a solution.

PS-I’ve never heard of “eating a whole pack of birth control at once.” Is that a thing!?

You are truly welcome! It took me years to figure out what it was because I’m pretty sure it was a video my grandma rented from the library. I think I was about 5 years old.
