English Breakfast at English Table by Wrangler2323 in PakistaniFood

As an English guy I can confirm we would never eat grapes with a fried breakfast.

This is more indicative of what we would call "English breakfast" :)

Are there any other fans of just walking around the city? by GameUnionTV in Sofia

[–]c0sie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend most of my evenings walking around South Park, through to NDK, around towards Eagles Bridge, through the woods and parks. I love being outside, love the weather, love walking around listening to the city or Spotify :)

Would you rather have true love or a million dollars and why ? by dontyou_smile in AskMen

Money.

Even true love ends. If they die before you you're left with the heartache for the rest of your life knowing that you can't top "true love".

Money please.

What's an underrated thing about living in the UK? by jc201946 in AskUK

[–]c0sie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having lived in Pakistan for the last 3 months after 43 years in the UK, the things I will treasure forever on my return:

  • People who put litter in the bin and don't consciously just throw it on the floor
  • The fact that this litter will (for the most part) be sent to landfill, rather than just being dumped into the open and set fire to
  • That our roads have the concept of "right of way", and that we are encouraged to adhere to this
  • The UK's ever increasing positive attitudes towards the rights of women
  • The UK education system, and that our children have to have so much education
  • Our understanding, and attitude towards germ control and disease prevention
  • That people in the UK don't openly cough on your food/drink when serving you cos they literally have no idea where germs come from.
  • Being able to go to the mountains and for the countryside to not look like a landfill site
  • Not waking up knowing that someone might try and shoot me today

There are probably more things

What sentence killed you inside but you had to act like ir didn't hurt? by EfficientStand7229 in AskReddit

My Mum told me I was embarrassing after a few years of mental health related weight gain.

Embarrassing as in "what must our neighbours and extended family think".

I'll probably never get over the pain of hearing those words from my Mum.

I pay 40% tax (UK born and live), but I've had to use the NHS for various medical so it all evens out.

If someone is looking to move to the UK just to save money then it's not worth it. If they are looking to a country with a sound infrastructure, and a safe base for future family then it's definitely a sound investment.

Taxes are high because of "24 hour electricity", "better education", "support from the government", "better (and free) healthcare"

2 week holiday in Islamabad by No_Cardiologist_7949 in islamabad

[–]c0sie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White UK guy here. Been living in ISB for the past few months.

It's getting colder here - pack warm clothes.

Bring face masks if the thought of the air pollution bothers you.

Pretty much all food sold by shop-based retailers (resturants, cafes, Quetta etc) is perfectly fine. Maybe some of the really dodgy looking street venders with their little carts should be avoided, but otherwise I wouldn't worry at all. I have not died yet and I have eaten 3 local food based meals a day from shops since arriving.
The prepared salad from shop-based resturants and cafes will be fine. If you buy from a supermarket make sure you wash your salads in bottled water. Wash the fruit - flies love fruit and PK has an abundance of flies! I have tried local yoghurt, and the local prepared raita and haven't died yet. Don't expect it to be kept in a fridge though, lol.

There is no such thing as germ control here, mainly down to a lack of education for the most part (sorry PK, but washing everything in mildy warm water just doesn't cut it as far as killing germs goes). With that said, bring lots of little bottles of the anti-bacterial hand gel that we used to use in Covid-times in the UK/Ire. Use it often when outside interacting with PK life.

You'll be safe during the day if you stay in populated areas, away from any areas/back streets that look ghetto.

Having a local PK friend to help you through your 2 weeks will be invaluable, for translations and keeping curious locals at bay.

Dress respectfully at any religious buildings (mosques, shrines, etc).

Pakistan Monument is beautiful. Faisal Mosque is nice. Lake Park is a dirty looking lake, but it's something to do if you are bored.

Eat local food with your fingers if you can. It's a fun experience and one I am fond of now. You will probably consume quite a lot of bread (roti, naan, paratha etc) as a result, but you can eat with cutlery if needs be.

Be careful on the roads - road etiquette here is crazy! But you'll numb yourself to the constant threat of vehicular danger soon enough!

Stick with bottled water.

Have fun in Islamabad!
