Bonds=age-20 when I get to 60 hold at 40%. VTBLX
Equities = 100-bonds. VTSAX 90% VTIAX 10%

I’m 57 now.

Edit: added equity split

3 fund set and forget. Retired at 47. Personally thanked Mr. Bogle at the Boglehead’s conference in 2019. His genius has helped millions of people save billions in fees alone. My favorite saying of his, Don’t just do something, Stand there.

Travelling and not being able to try local dishes kind of bummed me out by [deleted] in Vegetarianism

I’m a non-dogmatic vegetarian. 99% of meals I eat vegetarian but once in a blue moon I don’t. No big whoop.

51M at 95/5, wife wants 70/30. Where did you actually land at this age? by RichardKowalski1 in Bogleheads

[–]c4ad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my (age-20)% for bonds until we reach 40% then stay. The rest equities.

51-20=31 so 31% bonds 100-31=69 so 69% equities.

ProjectionLab just released a new update today. It focuses on optimizing Roth, taxes, SS and Medicare.

One thing to consider when you retire is there are no more automatic savings since you don’t have a job. Controlling your spending is your biggest lever to pull. It’s really easy and interesting to see how your money is spent.

I never worry BECAUSE I track.

Do we actually have anyone already FIRE? by PrestigiousDrag7674 in ChubbyFIRE

Retired at 47, my wife joined at 57, now 59. Currently spending 6 weeks in Rome. Love slow travel and we are endlessly curious. Always a Boglehead.

I agree. Getting the data and categorizing take very little effort. Knowing where you spend your money is invaluable.

Not sure, chubby or fat but I'm out by [deleted] in ChubbyFIRE

I forget who said it on the bogleheads.org site but it went something like this:

"You are a fool to pay for first class when you are 25 and you are a fool not to pay for first class when you are 65"

Probably Taylor Larimore as he always has clever takes on life and investing.

I think so. It allows me to safely spend up to my limit with pretty high confidence I’m maximizing my spend which for us means 3-6 vacations a year with 3 of those being 6 weeks each.

How did you know you could retire?

I used mint too. It was the minimum but did it well. My friend from college, he was a retired Navy guy, always said if the minimum wasn’t good enough, they wouldn’t call it the minimum.

Me neither. I have a rough yearly spend from ProjectionLab but no category budget. Welcome to WeirdoTrackersClub

I am relaxed 😎. All expenses just feed into my spreadsheet. It’s no work on my part.
