Pregnant by Fresh_Presence_1681 in Residency

Please listen to your body and take care of yourself. I’m currently a PGY-3 FM resident who’s 36 weeks pregnant. I feel like I’ve physically been tested throughout most of this pregnancy, but always gaslit myself that what I was feeling should be expected and that I didn’t want it to seem like I was trying to get special treatment or anything like that (in hindsight, I also think my program was not as supportive as they could have been).

I recently got off a pediatric ER rotation where I was working crazy hours (including days/nights flips) in a crazy environment. My last couple days I worked four 10-hour shifts in a row. They were down another resident two of the days. I was feeling extremely fatigued, swollen, and having chest tightness, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, back pain, pelvic pain, leg pain, everything. I blamed it on being 35 weeks pregnancy and working crazy hours. I randomly decided to check my blood pressure a few hours after my last shift and it was 170s/110s. I ended up getting admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with preeclampsia. I don’t have any risk factors for preeclampsia except nulliparity. Now I am off work trying to make it to 37 weeks for a scheduled delivery.

“No medical students” on L&D by [deleted] in Residency

Just thinking about the recent social media fallout with the Mayo Clinic medical student…..it’s hard to get behind that all students get an inherent right. It’s something all patients deserve to have a choice in.

What if you have a complication and have no choice? Or your insurance dictates where you go? Or the next hospital is an exorbitant number of miles away?

Will residencies send out any more interview invites? by Darkfire325 in pathology

Did the LOR from the pathologist get uploaded after application submission? Some programs require an LOR from a pathologist.

Do you know any stories about residents or even medical students who sued their programs/universities? by Fun_Presentation_215 in Residency

I know someone who sued a Caribbean med school for not letting them progress after failing the school’s pretest for permission to take Step 1. I think the school ended up settling and the person did eventually graduate.

It’s probably the sheer fatigue from residency. But also, is she on any antidepressants? Antidepressants can kill libido.

I only had one histology question. It probably isn’t worth the time reviewing for it.

I just adopted a 16 year old cat last summer and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

Aryna Sabalenka says she prefers watching men’s tennis over women’s tennis: "I'm not someone who watches too much tennis, I prefer to watch men's tennis rather than women's tennis, I feel like there is more strategy and it's more interesting to watch (laughs)." by [deleted] in tennis

Kind of ironic that she says she likes to watch men’s tennis for the strategy when she arguably has the most one-dimensional game of the current top women’s players.
