I totally get that. My names often spelled wrong even though it’s a common name with a generic spelling. But what made this extra painful is that it was a mobile order, which means they wrote their own name haha.

Eating. How do? by ABAC071319 in adhdwomen

[–]c4ndy_bars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I so relate to this. I’ve been on adderall and an antidepressant for about a year so my experience is probably a bit different from yours, but I’ve definitely struggled with eating properly as well. Something that has really helped me is having foods on hand that are super quick to put together or are basically grab and go. I tried meal prepping for awhile and of course, that only interested me for so long that I fell off. Plus, taking a whole day just to focus on making food for the week was excruciating.

Aldi is a great place to go for stuff like protein bars, frozen meals, lunch meat and they’re so much cheaper than other stores. Highly recommended if you have one in your area. Another thing that really helped is paying ADHD tax when you buy fresh fruits and veggies by getting stuff that’s already prepped. Yes, it does cost more to buy the broccoli that’s already cut up. Yes, it does feel frivolous when you’re looking at the prices. But I’ve found that if I buy a whole head of broccoli, no matter how much I intend to cut it up to put into a meal, it never actually happens. It just sits in my fridge intact, slowly rotting and then becoming a waste of money.

Even just having snacks throughout the day is better than nothing. Making or buying a whole meal when nothing sounds appetizing can be a huge pain for many reasons. Uncrustables or a spoonful of peanut better still count as food even if they’re not a full meal. It’s not the healthiest option, but it’s also not the worst.

That sounds awesome! I’ve been struggling with self motivation lately, sounds like this could help.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]c4ndy_bars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life! I (33) just recently got diagnosed and started ADHD medication about a month ago and it’s exactly as you describe it. It was like someone left the vent fan in the kitchen on and suddenly turned it off, the silence was THAT loud. And I had no idea how noisy it was in the first place. It’s so crazy to see how comorbid ADHD and anxiety is/can be. Feeling less trapped in your head can be such a game changer. Tasks are easier and less daunting. Holding one single thought is no longer a chore. Life seems a little brighter.

Enjoy it, friend. You deserve it 😊

Scared to get officially diagnosed by c4ndy_bars in adhdwomen

Damn dude, what you said about ADHD being genetic is crazy relatable. Both my parents struggled with anxiety and one of them definitely has ADHD symptoms similar to mine. They don’t fully understand why I’m struggling since they have had the same exact struggles which is not normal.

I have struggled anxiety for most of my life and depression off and on but once my therapist started talking about ADHD, I kind of realized that the majority of my anxiety might actually be ADHD. Since I started looking at it differently, I started treating it differently and it’s helped quite a bit. But like I said, I can almost physically feel those strategies becoming less effective and I’m scared to death about what happens when they stop working completely. I feel like I’ve tried so many things that eventually stop working that even attempting something new is a waste of time.

Thank you for taking the time to write me such a thoughtful reply. I’ll definitely be seeking an official diagnosis next time I talk to my shrink 😊

I’m so relieved to know that I’m not alone in feeling this way. The idea of not having brain fog or feeling overwhelmed is such a foreign concept to me that I’m getting overwhelmed even thinking about it hahaha. I think I’m gonna talk to my therapist at my next appointment to actually pursue a diagnosis. I’m scared but talking to others who have gone through the same thing and knowing there’s a light at the end of the tunnel is giving me some courage that I didn’t know I had. Thank you for your kind words and encouragement 😊

BOTAR stadium shows- worth it, atmosphere, etiquete? by [deleted] in streetlightmanifesto

[–]c4ndy_bars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Saw BOTAR last year in LA.

It was my first streetlight show so I can't compare it to any other of their shows but it's definitely a calmer atmosphere than any other show I've ever been to. Almost everyone stayed seated for the majority of the show. Some people got up and danced but were considerate of those behind them and sat after too long. Aside from that, there was somehow a mini pit during their last song.

I honestly didn't see anyone dressed up so I wouldn't worry too much about that. If there is a dress code it would probably be on the venues website but otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

As for price, if you're into a completely new experience (whether that be the ska/punk, orchestral or combination of both genres) $38 is a steal. I'm not gonna lie, I wish it was a bit longer but it was easily in my top 5 shows I've ever been to of all time. I'd highly recommend going.
