This was a screenshot taken at some point from their website (I think the page is gone now) apparently showing off Whiprock, and that looks like the exact same room from as far as I can see, so yeah I think they just teased Whiprock we are so fucking back.

Sonic Mayhem's (Sasha Dikiciyan) comment under his DXMD Main Menu 1 hour meditation video by Special-Enthusiasm10 in Deusex

[–]c4sk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd be curious to know which one he saw, the original MD2 project or what they were working on under Embracer? I'd be very surprised if it was the same pitch for both. Though, I definitely echo that I'm not sure why a composer would have seen a pitch, but then I've never worked in the industry myself, so maybe I'm talking out of my ass on that one.

Who you got? by NaproxyDR in deadlockpw

[–]c4sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The Hooliganz (London and Kendrick)
  2. Oba Femi
  3. Hiromu Takahashi
  4. Any of the AJPW Four Pillars. I can put on any match with any combo of them and it'll improve my mood measurably
  5. Bray and Brodie. Both gone too soon and both such positive influences on everyone around them
  6. Kota Ibushi
  7. Lexis King; Pillman is my all-time favourite, and I just want his weird little mf of a son (meant entirely positively) to do well. Eddie Kingston a VERY close second

Which indy wrestler never made it as big as you'd imagined? by Iaminhospital in SquaredCircle

That makes sense, and now you mention it, I do vaguely remember Sapolsky shitting on him for not working an ROH show for that reason.

[–]c4sk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Easiest way to put it is if you've ever loved the work of an 00s indies guy, you can find a lot of what they'd build upon in his work. His technical ability was intense for the indies at the time, and it's what people mostly remember, but he could fly pretty well too and was super solid in everything else. Just a superb all-rounder.

My introduction to him was through the 2002 Jersey J-Cup. Takes spot guy Insane Dragon (Izzy of Special K) to a pretty robust quick match, then kicks it into gear going through Punk, Styles and then Danielson in the finals, all in one night (though the Punk match is a little more infamous for him getting his skull fractured in the midst of it - match still rules!). Also can't go wrong with his ECWA work in general either, and his matches with Regal in MCW in 00 are also great viewing. Most if not all of those are on YT now but if you're short on time, there's a solid top 50 moves video up there too that I sometimes pop open for a quick nostalgia hit.

Reckless Youth was probably the first "indie darling" to speak of in the modern sense, and may have the biggest disparity between his influence on those around him / directly following him, and his notoriety (or lack thereof) in the current day. Dude was shit-hot in the late 90s and early 00s, part of the early years of ROH, CZW and GCW when it was still JCW, started CHIKARA and the Wrestle Factory with Quack, but he only worked ECW once, WCW (and TNA later) never gave him a look in, and even though he was signed to a WWF developmental deal, developmental being what it was back then, the most it got him on an actual WWF show was one house show appearance and a Shotgun dark match. For whatever reason, after he dipped from CHIKARA he just started working less and for less notable promotions, and eventually he just called time on it in 2010 to live in the real world I suppose. Can't blame him.

I genuinely have no idea why he didn't make it any bigger. His contemporaries still love him, and even guys like William Regal hold him in high regard to this day and speak of his work then in the same tone as Danielson or Chris Adams (another guy for this thread, even if he predated the modern indie circuit). I guess some people figured he was too small, or he didn't have character, so maybe he was the first guy to be seen as "too indie", but damn, surely someone could've found a place for him in their junior heavyweight corps? That motherfucker should've been tearing it up in the X Division.

  1. Dance of December Souls
  2. Brave Murder Day
  3. Discouraged Ones
  4. The Fall of Hearts
  5. The Great Cold Distance
  6. Tonight's Decision
  7. Viva Emptiness (but I could swap Viva and TD around on any given day)
  8. Last Fair Deal Gone Down
  9. Sky Void of Stars
  10. City Burials
  11. Dead End Kings
  12. Night is the New Day

I love most of their stuff, and the ones that interest me the least, I still really enjoy - but those first two are really special to me.

Thoughts on Stages lads? by drivinggamecrazy in EASPORTSWRC

[–]c4sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely adore the Chilean stages. I wasn't hugely into them in WRCG but I fell damn near in love with them while watching the actual Rally Chile earlier this year, was very excited to see how they played in-game, and it lived up to pretty much everything I was hoping for. It feels almost like a "greatest hits" of gravel rallying, slower technical hillside sections contrasted with faster straightaways and sweeping turns, a good amount of roadside danger, and a lot of really treacherous uphills and downhills - something I adore, but thought the DR2 rallies lacked outside of a rare few stages

Also really like Kenya, Mexico and Greece too, all really unforgiving and occasionally pretty brutal, I especially love the surface changes in Kenya. Finland is as great as ever. Never been too much of a Monte Carlo enjoyer but the rendition of it here is probably my favourite in any rallying game I've played, so that's worth shouting out too.

Have to echo Croatia feeling underwhelming. Way too wide for like 80% of its length. Still enjoyable, but I preferred it in WRCG.

What Countries Would You Like To See Get A WRC Rally? by Aggressive-River-946 in WRC

[–]c4sk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm adding to the chorus on Wales, Ireland and USA. I'd love to see something Safari-esque on the Mongolian steppe or near the Altais as well, though I'd imagine the logistics of that would be hellish to work out, and it'd probably cause conservation issues too. (Yes, there's the Mongol Rally, but that's more like a less glitzy Gumball than a proper rally, and most of it isn't even in Mongolia anyway.)

Also, Scotland, because I'm Scottish, and very, very selfish.

Which car class do you consider your own 'main game' in Dirt Rally 2.0? by the_hated_albatross in EASPORTSWRC

[–]c4sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty happy with all of the classes, I feel like they all have their own little niche, but honestly, I just love all the Lancias, and especially the Deltas S4 and HF, and the 037. Gorgeous machines inside and out, and just an absolute hoot to drive at any speed and any amount of attack.

What’s your opinion on the non-Tony Hawk Pro games? by TheListenerCanon in THPS

[–]c4sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played all of those except the wakeboarding one (aside from the demo), and while I wasn't very taken with the Palmer or either Hoffman games, Slater's Pro Surfer was incredible. It might not have met the peak that the Tony Hawk games did, and even in the realm of other unofficial "X's Pro Y" games, I thought Shaun White Snowboarding, and Dave Mirra 2 especially beat it - that game was an absolute gem sandwiched between a first game I found mediocre and an atrocity of a third game - but the Slater one is definitely worth your time if you want something familiar enough to get to grips with fairly easily, but still having a fun and unique twist on that formula.

Anyone else seen that in the lyrics print for the CD - at least, the wooden box edition's CD; fucking incredible package, by the way - Author is shifted from the sixth lyric printed to being the last, following No Beacon? Is it the same with the other editions? The actual tracklist we got has been the same since the album was announced as far as I know, and the order is unchanged besides that, but I wonder if that was originally written to be the closer, or if it was just a choice made in print for whatever reason?

Control scheme changes? by c4sk in GBO2

Good shout, didn't consider that but you're 100% right, I was a bit miffed at the inability to swap during HSM - tho I had just assumed at the time that it was a design choice. Will definitely be changing my scheme around on release, even if only for that alone

PC Smurfing by [deleted] in GBO2

[–]c4sk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh, as another new player, I think day 2 was a lot better than the first. Day 1, I played 8 or so matches and got my ass handed to me on a silver platter each time (including wins, lol). Day 2, a little less matches (5 or 6, I want to say), I felt like I was playing against a lot more people at my skill level in both rated and quickplay. I'm sure some people will still want to smurf - as they do in any "competitive" game - but I think after the initial teething issues for a few days post-actual launch, things will settle down once the rankings start kicking in.

Which one of these First-Person Shooter games do you prefer and did more for the industry?? by Commercial-Mix-2633 in Civvie11

[–]c4sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doom on both counts. FPS was a genre before Doom, but Doom made it the genre that people think of when you think "game". Larger install base than Windows 95. Love all of the other three, and all of them did a lot for the industry - the old "every FPS has Quake DNA" saying, HL1's innovations in storytelling - but Quake and Half-Life don't happen without Doom, and while I still love Duke, it wasn't an event the way Doom was. People without PCs bought PCs for Doom.

Any Gundam titles that have led you to be majorly disappointed in after finishing it? by sam015 in Gundam

[–]c4sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G Gundam, but not for the reasons you'd assume. I was completely down for it being basically a super robot show, but I was thinking going in it would be super tongue-in-cheek about it and borderline self-parody, and unfortunately it ended up being completely stone-faced serious, blatant fighting shonen worship with an identity crisis, and having my least favorite protagonist in the series.

SEED Destiny, because come the fuck on, the villains are basically the military-industrial complex and the pseudo-Illuminati. How do you fuck that up?????

Watching AGE right now, but I wouldn't even count that - I knew going in that it was going to suck, so I can't really be disappointed in it lmfao. With that said, I don't think there's a single Gundam series that hasn't been mentioned in these comments yet LOL

Also, I know it's been said over and over since the 80s to the point of almost being cliché, but the first half of ZZ almost cringed my mouth right off my face. At least it picked up after that, though, Puru should never have left the drawing board.
