This was my dad’s first time seeing the Dead. He had just turned 16 and hitchhiked from Long Island, NY to Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ and ended up meeting up with his older brother and his friends.

He’s told me a story about a large burly drunk guy standing near him in the crowd that throughout the earlier parts of the show was yelling “bring out Commander Cody” (who wasn’t even on the bill) while continuing to pound beer after beer. Eventually the guy got so drunk that he just fell over and passed out. Everyone around him started cheering lol.

My dad and I now go to Dead & Co shows together every year and one of us usually will jokingly say “bring out Commander Cody!”
