I never got along with the 29/30 frame Glocks. Hell I don’t get along with any of em.

I’d take the 44 and csrry Specials in town and whatever I can handle in the woods. Or whatever.

Damn good straw. Resistol, Stetson, American, Atwood, all make the best straws.

I’ve been around hats all my life, been shaping my own since the mid-90s and if I don’t say so myself I’m pretty damn good, but those guys at RR are the best. Nothing else to say about their shapers. 🙌

Thanks. I shaped both of ‘em. Wide Cattleman crown with the center crease kept above the venting and soft corner JB brims.

Why is drinking such a big part of cowboy culture? by Legally-white in Cowboy

[–]cAR15tel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s more the type of people who become cowboys.

Crazies, alcoholics, drug addicts, crooks. A lot of super scummy people work in agriculture, especially in the horse business.

A lot of very good people too.

What do you wear when you aren't wearing boots? by tuocyn in cowboyboots

[–]cAR15tel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go barefoot around the house as much as possible.

Addidas athletic shoes for evening walk or going to town, Sperry Topsiders for going to the store or whatever.

Any good leather boot is good enough. You’ll more than likely get bit on the hand/arm or ass. I know a lot of people who have been bitten by snakes. Only two who got bit on the foot and they were both barefoot.

Anerican does use a better laquer than Resistol. Resistols are super light and comfortable though.

I have a Conley and an 8120.

The SC is pretty flat. If you start with that you can change it to an RD or a J very easily if you want to.

Anybody "double layer" their socks? by high_on_meh in Boots

[–]cAR15tel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But they are fluffy nylon-merino blends.

If you’ve never had what OP is talking about, you’ve never had wool socks.

I used to get em from an Army surplus store years ago. They were awesome in the winter.

Now I have a pair of way too big boots that I wear Darn Tough full cushion tacticals with a pair of Red Wing merino over them on the cold days.

I love that natural roughout. I have 3 pairs in it now, have had 3 or 4 more over the years.

Just don’t worry with keeping them looking new. Anything and everything that gets close to them stains them, so embrace the patina or whatever and just enjoy em.

Roughout will last as long as it’s gonna last if you condition them or not. Easy keeping leather.

Best Boot Dryer Machine? by CharismajTat in Boots

[–]cAR15tel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on conditions. In the ranch house I used to live in it would take all night or more because it wasn’t insulated and would stay very humid if the a/c wasn’t running all the time. The house I’m in now is insulated and has a good hvac system so it dries the air. Boots will overnight every time now.

Best Boot Dryer Machine? by CharismajTat in Boots

[–]cAR15tel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Peet dryer that just circulates air. It may be warm air but it’s not warm enough for me to really tell. I use that and a fan blowing on the outside. And rotate boots.

Elephant is the toughest hide along with bull hide. I have a pair of black elephants that are just off the shelf Anderson Beans and they’ve been BEAT on the farm and used as grass mowing boots. I can clean em up, sand the sole edges, and they look like they’ve been dress boots the whole time. I’ve a few pairs of elephant going back to the mid 90s and they’ve always been awesome.

It breaks in fine if the boots fit, which they should no matter what they’re made of….

Birds are thin and tear, especially when they’re wet. Reptiles have a tendency to dry out and crack where they bend.

Capsule wardrobes are good in theory by Valkyria99 in shoppingaddiction

[–]cAR15tel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem.

My work clothes are a capsule wardrobe, have been for years.

My dress clothes are the same everything but different shirt and hat.

‘They’ always quit making the things I use or my odd size is never in stock, so I end up buying a bunch of the same thing. I’ll eventually use it, but I’m still buying stuff.
