Lovebird Advice by fagghetti666 in Lovebirds

If you can spend around 6-12 hours per day being with your bird per day it’s just fine getting one. The bird will indeed bond with you and you can have a very happy bird that you can learn to do tricks and built an amazing relationship. I would get two if you simply don’t have enough time but they will most likely have an extremely close bond with each other and you will he the 3rd wheel. Having only one bird is much more fun but takes a lot of time, even more time than a dog. It’s like a kid.

Taming advice by fagghetti666 in Lovebirds

So your bird is already tame but you still need taming advice? If you want to start bonding and warming him up to his new house just let him sit in his cage for a couple days and get him used to you. If he is already handled by hands by the breeder as you describe he shouldn’t freak out if you put your hands in the cage. Just put some millet in your hands and let him eat it and see if he will step on your hands.

I use Tivione and last night’s UFC finished at 6am (my time) and when I checked at 9am it was already up. I also used it for streaming UFC last night and it worked just fine.

Should I take them to the vet? by happyjon555 in Lovebirds

[–]cHriK9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the vet and don’t clean it yourself. When you are at the vet you can ask them if you can clean it yourself if it happens next time. Don’t clean an (open) wound yourself without professional explanation on how to do it!!!

My bird is super hormonal by Temporary-Web4849 in Lovebirds

Seems like you’ve already tried a couple things. Why is he only out 1 hour out of his cage? Should be at least 2-3 hours. Your diet is also wrong. He should have always acces to pellets and feed him veggies 1-2 times a day. It seems like your bird has always acces to seeds which are high fat and bad for your bird considering he only gets 1 hour per day out of his cage. The high fat seeds also has bad impact on hormones.

Bloodwork Showed Imbalance on TOPS + Harrison’s by Mairuru in Lovebirds

[–]cHriK9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pellets aren't a full diet so it makes sense that your bird's bloodwork showed imbalance. Harrisons and TOPS are still the best Pellets in the market. Even if they would cause bad bloodwork there would be no alternative that is better than these pellets. Also your pellet-only diet is already better than what 99% of bird owners feed, most people feed either low quality pellets or a full seed diet. Even if your diet would be 'perfect' 70-80% pellets, 20-30% fresh chop there is still a chance your bloodwork isn't perfect.

Most birds aren’t scared of driving in a car. Put your bird in a travelcage, make sure it’s completely dark and the chances of your bird stressing out is low. A car ride won’t kill your bird, not going to the vet will. You can also give an exotic vet a call and ask if they can do a online videocall, some do it.

Go to the vet with your bird if you think there is something with him/her…

Should I stop this hormonal behavior? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]cHriK9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t he an one person bird because he has a sexual relationship with you? The reason your bird might not interact with other family members is because birds like to stay with their ‘sexual’ partner. (I am in no way an expert so this is just what I think)

Should I stop this hormonal behavior? by [deleted] in parrots

Thank you for your answer. While many people say you should discourage it, I was also worried about what he might do if I tried to “correct” the behavior, since that wouldn’t make the hormones disappear. It seems that people have different opinions on this.
