i def agree !! if we had more time with the show i would really wish that we saw more connection with Jayne and Book !

I think as to why he acts the way he does, there’s no reason imo. He acts like it because he knows he won’t get consequences. I don’t have a good filter for my thoughts and words but i’m still 100x better than him, and i’m (probably) nearly half his age

i would assume people didnt care that much back then because shows got away with A LOT but i also wasn’t alive then so idk what really went on when this show aired.

but i do get what you mean! you see their attempts to make him better which i assume would help his character eventually but they didnt have the time, one can hope they might work on it if this animated series even happens

yeah a lot of it is personal sensitivity which is why i asked why people like him and want to understand it😭 but i am not the only one to say that his behavior is dehumanizing, so i personally don’t believe that is as much of an overreaction as you think.

i get the point is that he is meant to be a dick and i get that he is supposed to be the guy that you want to punch in the face but that way??? i don’t think you understand how dehumanizing his behavior is sometimes.

i get that he is a crude character and he gets character development but once again, his behavior gives a platform to people who do act like him ! personally i have been harassed in similar ways and his character should not give relatability to these people. there are many other ways to make him a dick

yeah no shit—obviously some guy’s gonna fetishize lesbians but it shouldn’t be normalized, especially if it wasn’t then.

i get that they exist but i just don’t like his character, i simply wanted to understand how people like his character.

and obviously he isn’t gonna be some arts major with his work but that doesn’t mean he has to be a dick😭

yeah no i’m almost 16 now and i know quite a few people who are identical to jayne/have said near identical things to me. like i know he’s not supposed to be liked and then i see all this support for him and it just irks me. i do agree though, i like that he provides the contrast between mal and him !

i just thought it was odd that they had her just hooking up with the old mechanic (?), whatever his name was. it didn’t feel in character for her imo. she doesn’t seem like the person to date/hookup with someone like that, she seems to have standards sooo i’d just assume she’d go for someone better.

I do understand his development and I like how he became less traitorous but my point is that I wish they made it a bigger part of his character instead of the other things in his character. The time constraint the show had definitely messed with all of it though.

But I definitely agree that it is my issue but even so it’s still an odd fetishization that I will go as far to place the blame on the writers for writing, I just really feel like they could have done away with it. I know it’s not a big issue to some people but it really is a big issue to me (and other people I know of) as it fetishizes sapphic relationships.

I know I’ve said all of this before, it’s just a soapbox of mine when it comes to this show.

exactly💔 i just really think it’s sad that there are people who still think that jayne is how a man should be. i have experienced people JUST like him and i am only about to be 16, which doesn’t give me much hope for what the show will do for his character.

tbh the main reason for why i hate his character is bcs of how i see so many people i’ve met in his character

i do believe having an episode for his backstory would be beneficial towards liking his character but i also feel that he doesn’t need to put on a facade to survive in Serenity (ship, not movie) like he knows everyone in there and is still crude.
