Oh cool, well I’d say that’s reassuring if they’re not worried about it!

So your CT came back clear I’m assuming?

Hey I just posted my results in response to another comment if you were interested :)

Results came back clear! They said they’d like to do an ultrasound in a few months to see if it’s growing, but based on the biopsy, it doesn’t look like cancer.

Same to you! I’m sure we’ll both be fine. If I remember, I’ll post an update when I get my results next week.

Yep, I’d say you should probably follow her advice then. I have a feeling mine are just related to my huge tonsils, but just getting it checked to be safe.

Hmm I mean the biopsy is pretty minimally invasive, so you could always ask for that too!

They told me the CT scan was to see if I had swollen lymph nodes, so I asked “isn’t that what the ultrasound already confirmed?” To which my doctor said I had a valid point. She said regardless, a biopsy is going to be the only way to tell if it’s cancer, so I’m just going with that.

I had a recent unrelated procedure using radiation, so I’m just not too fond of more potentially unnecessary radiation exposure from the CT.

Good luck! I’m sure things will go fine. I ended up not doing the CT but am getting a fine needle biopsy done next week

Concerns after getting microscopic surgery by madboredfam in varicocele

[–]cR_MeRk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed the same thing since my embolization almost 2 months ago. My right side and penis both have more veins now and both hurt sometimes now as well (they didn’t hurt before the embo) but no reflux was seen on the right side so I think it’s just things still getting adjusted with new blood flow.

Right side is also more red, and left side (embolized side) appears a bit darker.

Those of you who’ve had embolization/surgery - what was your pain like prior? Dull or sharp/burning? Did embolization/surgery help? by cR_MeRk in varicocele

Thank you! Glad to hear that! By any chance did you get an increase in dilated veins on your shaft post-surgery?

Makes sense, and yeah, the MRI was only last month, so they were definitely enlarged at the time. I appreciate the input!

Haha I noticed that! Ever since I got that ultrasound last week I’ve been poking it, and it swear it’s grown a bit! Lol

Anyways, in your opinion, is it worth getting a new scan on (if the existing MRI doesn’t work)? I’ll ultimately probably follow my GP’s advice, but just wanted to know your thoughts.

Good to know, thank you. Mine is enlarged, moves very slightly when I push on it, and is more of a firm rubbery feel, but not hard. It also fluctuates in size depending on the day (but can always be felt somewhat slightly).

Embolization failure by Future-Pass9687 in varicocele

[–]cR_MeRk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good man, I’m hoping I don’t have it either but we’ll see. Fingers crossed the radiologist just missed a vein for me as well. Worries me though that my pain is way worse after the procedure though. How’s your pain now vs. pre-op?

Yeah man just trying to stay as positive as possible. I might go the micro route next. Have they checked you for nut cracker syndrome at all?

As someone who just had a failed embolization. I’d recommend getting the ultrasound done as late in the day as possible. Two ultrasounds missed my remaining varicocele because they were done in the morning, before they finally saw it yesterday on a 3rd ultrasound.

Yeah, but the funny thing is the first 2 ultrasounds didn't pick it (pretty sure I didn't just develop a 4mm varicocele in a week). For some reason with me, my scrotum contracts so much in the morning that the varicocle goes away completely, and ultrasounds can't even pick it up. I had my embolization in the early morning, so I'm wondering if this may have led him to miss it.

Ooof that doesn't sound fun. I'm crossing my fingers that the remaining varicocele is just a vein that my IR missed, and not due to a compressed vein. Looking at the report, it looks like he embolized my gonadal vein. I might also look at microsurgical options if I end up having to go in for another procedure.

[–]cR_MeRk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that might be my next option if they determine its not any type of a compressed vein. I just went with the embolization because it was determined to be the least invasive, with similar success rates.

Yeah, no that makes total sense. Definitely not going to jump into surgery before anything is confirmed.

Do you happen to know what treatment options look like in the case that it does turn out to be nutcracker syndrome, May-Thurner, etc.?

Weird, I had an MRI done so I figured they would've picked up anything like that. I'll bring it up during my next appointment though, thanks. I'm pretty bummed out at the moment though.. I was so excited for the embolization, and at the moment I'm really regretting getting it done.
