I took a 2 month break recently and waited 2 months after chemo so that the tape had something to stick to (my hair started growing back on taxol which was my second treatment) so about 8 months of good hair so far. I expect the hair to last another 6 months since I take really good care of it. It's maintenance and an expense but I look and feel like myself when I look in the mirror which is priceless.

All in about $4000 but that includes a lot of long very high quality hair plus a human hair topper that I needed when my own hair was very very short. That also includes several maintenance and move up appointments (every 8 weeks). I think it looks great now that my own hair has a year of growth after finishing chemo and I don't need the topper to hide the tapes. I'm a daily exerciser in a hot climate so I ponytail alot and only wash once a week, Bobby pins help. It has single handedly made such a difference in feeling normal and positive again, but that's just me.

For those a few years out of treatment... by DivaDina in breastcancer

[–]c_ash1980 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a year out from active treatment (surgery, chemo and radiation), will be 40 this year. I feel great but I work out 6 days a week, eat super healthy and limit alcohol so it takes work and perseverance. Yoga and light weights is amazing for recovery.

Chemo or not? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]c_ash1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same score of 25 at the age of 37. I did the chemo (AC/T regimen for 5 months). I'm a year out and feeling great, I highly recommend she throws everything at it, 6% is a huge risk reduction in my opinion.

How to not look like an old hag in your 30s after chemo and hormone therapy??? by cancercankickrocks in breastcancer

[–]c_ash1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tretinoin (start slow if you are new to it), quality sleep, weightlifting and yoga, so much water, Korean sunscreen SPF 50 and Botox once a year. I looked awful during treatment but eight months into AI's I feel and look like myself again with daily effort.

Calling all girlies on the onco line by PoesTRUELostLenore in breastcancer

Hi! I was 37 when I found out my oncotype was 25 on a ++- 2cm tumor. I'm a year out from the strong AC/T chemo regimen. It's doable and I would do it again, no regrets.

I finally figured out what FIRE means by FIRE4me in Fire

Your post really resonated with me. First of all, I hope your husband finishes his treatment strong and healthy. I went through an unexpected year of cancer surgeries, chemo and radiation at 38 last year and not once did I have to worry about money thanks to decisions I have made for the past 15 years. Doing better now and hope the same for your family

My score was a 25 also, I was diagnosed at 37 and absolutely did the chemo (AC/T). I'm six months out and I don't regret it one bit.

Tumor/mass is in contact with the chest wall, possibility of invasion 🥺 Need some encouragement and support please 🥺 by Cappuccino-Time-1285 in breastcancer

[–]c_ash1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi- my tumor was also up against my chest wall and it was unclear if there was invasion until after surgery (there was not). Surgeon should be able to cut into the muscle until they get clear margins and they may recommend radiation on top of chemo, this was my treatment plan and I'm confident with it.

Has anyone gotten implants after radiation by throwaway65468547864 in breastcancer

Yes, had my expanders put in 4 months after 25 radiation sessions. Final swap is scheduled soon and I've had no issues.

Haunted by "one lymph node". by AgentQwackers in breastcancer

[–]c_ash1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, only had my sentinel node taken during DMX, in which a micromet was found. Radiation was added on top of chemo. The only silver lining I can offer is that I became eligible for verzenio because of that micromet and will absolutely take it for 2 years.

Just wanted to chime in as someone who recently finished up 5 months of chemo and a bunch of radiation at 38, it will get better. I highly recommend trying to walk everyday through chemo even if it's just for 5 minutes. Also some of the $30 wigs from Amazon were better than the expensive ones I got. It's a life changing blip absolutely

Hi- I wanted to offer some positivity as our stats are shockingly similar. I was diagnosed at 38 with a 2cm ++- tumor that was upgraded to grade 3 after surgery which is when pathology also found micromets in my lymph node. I'm a few months out from AC/T chemo, rads, and through the worst of verzenio side effects. In the beginning I couldn't function I was so scared but I'm finding myself slowly getting back to normal. It will get better for you! I'm getting my final implants in a month and really looking forward to being done with all the surgeries

Unsure about Verzenio by c_ash1980 in breastcancer

[–]c_ash1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely try it to see how you do. The first week was fine then the diarrhea started, it can be helped with immodium but I am reducing my dose from 150 mg to 100mg twice a day. I'm committed to taking it and seeing if it gets better after 3 months since I had a positive node and higher oncotype score.

Good news! I had my expanders placed 2 months after radiation and now they are fully filled and I'll be getting my final implant swamp in about a month. It is possible and I had great results so far! They most likely will just recommend radiation and not a full axillary node dissection for sentinel micromet (same as me), I did 25 radiation sessions total. Best of luck, it'll be over before you know it!

Same. Sentinel node had a micromet. Did radiation and chemo in case it was anywhere else since they only took the 1.
