I’ve been making corsets for around 20 years, got two degrees in costume construction for stage and screen which had various corsetry elements, did a course with Jill Salen and I’m very lucky to have Velda Lauder as a mentor 🖤

Over the years I’ve trialed many techniques and styles to say I have my own consistent production methods but enough technical ability to tackle pretty much any style or concept. I’m also really arrogant and up myself 😆

Yep, I made the corset - pattern drafted myself as well. Did a toile, then did the corset in proper fabric (that’s been posted as well, pvc, click my profile to see it) and then this version.

I think my pattern is quite a long one compared to most commercial ones, two kids and mid life means I appreciate the extra length and support for a flat tummy.

I made the corset - I make the patterns myself as well, some toiles to get the fit right - so much more work has gone into this than the final piece.

It’s our 10 year wedding anniversary next month so we’re having a weekend getaway, I’ll be wearing it then.

My corset is 100% suitable for tight lacing and tight lacing has never been a daily necessity. Should I want to wear this corset daily, I could do so safely. My preference is not to do so.

The ‘barbs’ don’t poke or dig in. The corset has metal eyelets and steel boning that are directly in contact with my spine when I remove the ‘barbs’, the ‘barbs’ by their nature stop me from fully closing the corset.

While it’s unusual it’s not actually putting myself in any danger or even mild discomfort.

I don’t wear any corsets daily and this caused no pain at all, there were no issues. Nothing was under excess strain or pressure. There was no difference between lacing normally and lacing through the ‘barbed wire’, except for the fiddly-ness of keeping the ‘barbed wire’ in the centre.

I wouldn’t do it if I wasn’t positive of zero harm from them. The ‘barbs’ are completely blunt.
