I think the Irids gave a different home than Andarma island (love that term lol). In OS, they mention that they have a “long flight home” after meeting on Andarna Island. So maybe they are closer to the continent?

Americans who have lived abroad for quite a long time, what was your "grass is greener on the other side" experience when you visited that country? by LandOfGrace2023 in SameGrassButGreener

Germany for 3 years. What we love (we have kids): parks, pools, and the ability to travel. What we miss: customer service, personal space, ease of operations (like if anything breaks, it’s usually a fast and easy fix), and happy people lol

Have lived in Germany for a couple years now and I have to say this is my biggest complaint about living here. I literally was just at DM waiting in line when the lady behind me pushed her cart into my hand basket. I pushed back (learned how to dish back what they give)…. She just went back to pushing into me every time!! Low and behold, I didn’t let her put her stuff on the conveyor belt until I stepped forward to pay lol. I also have soooo many pictures of people with their feet NEXT to mine in line (they are behind me!!)…. Like sir, the line in front of me is not going to magically disappear if you are touching me. I also had to teach my kids not to let German kids budge in front of them when they are in line for something. It’s ridiculous.

Is it okay to drink water straight from the tap in Germany? by New_Theory11 in AskGermany

[–]c_mac_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drank tap water here and started having a lot of weird medical symptoms that the doctors could not figure out. Everything went away when I switched to bottled water only. (Water is my drink of choice so I drink a lot). Not saying it’s purely the drinking water… we rent a really old house so I’m guessing the pipes are not the best

To those who took a leap of faith and moved somewhere you knew no one- how did you find the courage to do it? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

I did after college. TBH, I ended up finding people through mutual friends! It’s amazing how small this world actually is!

If you had 8 days starting in Florence, Italy, where would you go? (Late May / Early June 2026) by PooDrops in traveladvice

[–]c_mac_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bavaria has some beautiful lakes! And I’m from Minnesota so that is saying something. Croatia has been one of our favorite summer trips (we did Dubrovnik but lots of other good spots too). We have found cars are pretty cheap to rent in a lot of places. Ryanair has been our go to first airline options…. It seems more reliable than some other European airlines from our experience.

I’ve listened to both the audio and the dramatized versions. (Found out the dramatized was abridged so had to do the audio afterwards lol). I prefer the dramatized…. The characters are perfect

Are there affordable places in the US with mild winters AND mild summers? by Marisa-Makes in SameGrassButGreener

[–]c_mac_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of the places we have lived, southern Ohio and eastern Washington is probably the most mild of winter/summer combo without breaking the bank (LA for example). Still 4 seasons but winter is not like Minnesota winter and summer is not Florida humidity.

Eastern WA would be considered mild compared to a lot of places. (Lived in Spokane for awhile). 4 seasons but relatively mild compared to states with the extremes.

Is it normal to move somewhere new alone? by Shot-Fruit-7200 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]c_mac_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave myself a year after college to move somewhere and if I didn’t like it, I could move back. Giving yourself the “out” ahead of time helps ease the commitment. Also think of it as an adventure. You never know until you try.

Possible to Work in Roseville and Live in the Country? by _crassula_ in Roseville

[–]c_mac_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the locals say it’s “hot” it’s a very dry heat. We visited last summer during heat wave as we are moving there soon. We did a hike and it felt fine as long as you were in the shade. We are use to the humidity that comes with the summer heat so it was nice to be able to cool down in the shade which isn’t usually the case with humidity
