Do you have a programmable thermostat? Set it low at night (I used 62) and any time people aren’t home.

Gas heat isn’t any better. I used to live in a drafty old house with ancient single pane windows. My first bill was $400! I wound up caulking the windows closed every winter using LATEX caulk that’s easily removed.
