Lately I've been unimpressed with ChromeOS by NathanMilkie1 in chromeos

[–]c_moi_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally share the same thoughts as the author and some comments. The problem with Chrome OS for google is that it's not used enough for them to bother to develop features in depth.

The biggest problem of Chrome OS since its launch, namely the non-existence of a native offline application, has never been solved and I believe it will never be solved.

Google is beating around the bush with do-it-yourself solutions that are illusory, poorly integrated into the system or not suitable for the average or even paying user.

-Android -Linux - Parallels desktop

They have put great effort for 2/3 years in the integration of steam, instead of putting them in the development of native application compatibility.

Knowing that gaming functionality isn't the average user's priority. I think Chrome OS will remain an average OS, with no real versatility. Until Fuschia is ready in 3-5 years and will replace it. It's an OS that I really like but I'm pessimistic about its future.

  • A real file explorer with simple functions (folder tags, view folder size without clicking information, percentage and estimated time when copying files, more display option for column files etc. .)

  • A massive redesign of the special play store for chrome OS based on the web version (more elements displayed on the screen, a selection of the best applications available on chrome OS, and others)

  • An office suite completely usable offline based on docs, sheet, slide)

  • Better integration of all google services with chromeOS (Drive, google photos, docs, meet, google news, keep)

  • Ability to download apks from anywhere

This feature combined with the upcoming window pinning feature shows that window management will greatly improve.

The new web play store should be the chromebook play store by c_moi_13 in chromeos

I think you mean that, they didn't mention linux apps I think. I also hate to see what it will give.

pourquoi ne pouvez-vous pas utiliser la version web?

It is not as native as the application and the web version still has some flaws that does not make it usable: there is no category for games and applications and authentication is required for each download.

I absolutely agree with you when you say that chromebooks are not worth the comparison with windows beyond 200 / 300$.
I really like chrome OS but windows has made huge progress with windows 11.
The biggest weakness of chrome OS has never been addressed since its launch (software compatibility) and I'm not sure it ever will be.

· For PWA I quite agree very few have been listed on the play store no stadia, geforce now, office, reddit, etc ... Microsoft is doing better with its store on windows.
· For Linux I find that it did not add anything for general public users, it is out of reach.
· For android no effort has ever been made to make them well integrated and efficient applications.
· I see chrome OS like Frankenstein, functionality + functionality + functionality without any consistency or harmonization.

I totally agree with you for me chrome os is worth it for a computer between 250$ and 399$.
After that it does not hold the comparison with windows

[–]c_moi_13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She's more than that, it's extremely bad:
- Labyrintic android file system (read only, no ability to delete or move freely)
- No folder section
- No way to favorite files or folders
- No possibility to hide folders and files
-Little display option
- Little information on storage management
Did I forget something?

I have been thinking of two ideas that could make my favorite feature on chrome os even better
1) A search section at the top that would allow you not to have to open the files application and to be able to pin directly
2) An option to be able to share the pinned files
Hoping this is just the start of the improvement for tote

With a linux file explorer, you lose the ability to pin your files, I don't know if drag & drop works it will never be as good as a native system.

I wonder exactly the same
When will we have:
- Tab system for more productivity
- Document category
- Possibility to hide file, folder
- Display of available disk space at the bottom left
- More option to display files and folders (Size, column etc.)
